Staad Post processing results.

GianGrewal Tue, Sep 2 2014 7:36 AM

I have a doubt in the reaction tab in post processing of staad. In Static check results, its shows three rows
namely as loads, reactions and difference. In which difference is almost or is equal to zero. But for a particular
load case, summation of all moments available in Support reaction window is not equals to the moment
available in the Static Check results.

My question are

Why there is a difference between both cases?

for foundation/pedestal design which reaction we should take (for combined footing)?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

This means that the applied force is not transferred to the supports due to some modeling issues, i.e.
instabilities. If you could attach your model, we could try to find more specific reasons of this issue.

All the reactions of the governing load case of the specific node should be used in the design of the
foundation. You might use STAAD.foundation or STAAD Foundation Advanced for the design of the
foundations. The reactions of the selected load cases from STAAD.Pro into STAAD.foundation or
STAAD Foundation Advanced can be transferred automatically.

staad file is attached.

What is the load case number where the applied loads and reactions do not match?
Could you send the screenshot of it? I analyzed your model with the current
STAAD.Pro version (build 20.07.10.64) and noticed that applied loads and reactions
in all load cases are matching perfectly. What is STAAD.Pro version which you are
using?

Please find attached screen shot, It will make my doubt more clear.

why there is a difference between the summation of moments in reaction window

than the reaction available in the static check results window?

and I have seen a calculation of this tower only where foundation has been
designed using the moments and reactions available in the static check result
window. foundation is combined foundation with four pedestal on which each leg
supporting.

The support reactions table is showing the forces and moments mobilized at each
support on an individual basis.

The Statics check table is showing the resultant force and moment - calculated
using the values at the individual supports - about the origin of the global axis
system - the (0,0,0) point.

This is how one can get the latter from the former.

FY Reaction at support node 1 = -1923.729 kg

Lever arm (distance from node 1 to the origin along the Z axis) = 0.8 m

MX Reaction at support node 1 = -13.667 kg-m

Moment at the origin due to these values = FY*d + MX = -1*(1923.729*0.8 +

13.667) = -1552.66 kg-m

The -1 term is to indicate that the moment sense is along the negative direction of
the global X axis.

Similarly, the calculations for the remaining supports are :

Node 2 = -1*(1923.729*0.8 + 13.667) = -1552.66 kg-m

Node 3 = -1*(1923.729*0.8 + 10.299) = -1549.2822 kg-m

Node 4 = -1*(1923.729*0.8 + 10.299) = -1549.2822 kg-m

Total from the 4 supports = -6203.88 kg-m

The Statics Check table shows -6203.866 kg-m which is almost exactly the same
as the calculation shown.

OK, explanation makes things crystal clear. Thank you very much for your efforts.

I fixed my support.it showing moment in reaction table is 0.000 but in static check it
showing 1.325KN.

FY is coming correct 0.544*4 support= 2.175KN.pls explain why the moment value
is coming different. thanks Advance

The moments that you are getting in the statics check table about the X axis are
obtained by doing an algebraic summation of all the MX support moments ( which is
zero for load case 3 ) plus the MX moments generated about the origin by multiplying
the individual Support Reaction ( in global Y ) X Distance from the origin ( measured
along global Z ).
