Instructions: Answer ALL of the following questions. Write your answer in A4 size paper
with proper margin. Your answer must be relevant, neat and clean.
Q1. 3
In a right triangle with acute  , sin   . Construct a right triangle for which this
2
is true, and use the triangle to find the values of the other five trigonometric ratios for
angle  .
Q2. a. A man on a level plane finds that the angle of elevation of a point at the top of a
198 feet cliff is 32°. How far must he walk towards the cliff so that the angle of
elevation is 75°.
sec   tan  1  sin  

b. Show that  .
sec   tan  cos 2 
Q3. a. Find the solution set of the following equation:
1 t7
 i   4t  7   ,  ii   4  2 x  6   8 x  5 x  24  x

b. Apply Elimination Method to solve the system of equations.
2 x  2 y  3z  4
5x  7 y  z  2
2 x  2 y  3z  4
Q4. a. An investor invested a total of Tk 13000 in a two-part mutual fund; one part
is more risky than the other, but pays a higher return. The investor has
forgotten how much was invested in each part of the fund, but knows that they
paid 3% and 8.5% last year, and that the total income from the investment was
Tk 985. Compute how much must have been invested at each rate.
b. An animal feed is made from three ingredients: corn, soybeans, and
cottonseed. One unit of each ingredient provides units of protein, fat, and fiber
as shown in the table. How many units of each ingredients should be used to
make a feed that contains 22 units of protein, 28 units of fat, and 18 units of
fiber?
Corn Soybeans Cottonseed Total
Protein 0.3 0.25 0.1 22
Fat 0.2 0.1 0.2 28
Fiber 0.25 0.2 0.4 18
Q5. a. Compute (i) AT  2B and (ii) A1 ,
 2 1 3   1 2 3
where A   5 1 1 and B   2 1 0  .

b. Apply the Gauss-Jordan Method to solve the system of equations.
x  2 y  4 z  4
2 x  5 y  9 z  10 .
3 x  2 y  3 z  11
Q6. Let A be (-3, 5) and B be (5, -10). Find
i. the distance AB,
ii. the midpoint P of AB,
iii. the point Q which divides AB in the ration 1:3,
iv. the equation of the line through A and B.
Q7. a. Solve the following inequalities, and state the solution in set-builder notation
and interval notation. Graph the solution set.

b. A computer program is used to buy and sell stock. A certain stock is selling
1
for 32 points. The computer is set to alert someone if the price of the stock
8

changes by more than 1 points. Thus the prices x that would set off this alert

are described by 32  x  1 . Solve this inequality. State the solution in set-

an  2.71an1  0.15an21 , for n  2
i. Give a table of values for n = 1, 2, 3, . . . , 10.
ii. Graph the sequence. Describe what happens to population density.
Q10. Mr. Anwar must pay a lump sum of Tk. 7200 in 4 year.
i. What amount deposited today (present value) at 3.2% compounded annually
will grow to Tk. 7200 in 4 year?
ii. If only Tk. 6200 is available to deposit now, what annual interest rate is
necessary for the money to increase to Tk. 7200 in 4 year?
