Lab. Facilitator:
Rolando V. Cabais _________________
Software Required: Power World Simulator
Theory: To studying thousands of possible outages becomes very difficult to solve if it is
desired to present the result quickly. One of the easiest ways to provide a quick calculation of
possible overload is to linear sensitivity factor

Example: For a given system data calculate the Generation Shift Sensitivity Factor (GSF)

The following is the data for a six bus System

Bus Voltage Generation Load Bus

No Bus

1 230KV or 1.05p.u 100

2 230KV or 1.05 p.u 0.5 p.u or

50MW

3 230KV or 1.07 0.6p.u or

60MW

4 1p.u 0.7p.u or
70MW,70MVAR

5 1 p.u 0.7p.u or
70MW,70MVAR

6 1 p.u 0.7p.u or
70MW,70MVAR

2-5 0.3

2-6 0.2

Procedure:
Simulation Result:

1) Find the Generation Sensitivity factor when the generation on Bus Number 3 is lost what
will be the new power flow on line
i) line 1-4 ii) Line 2-5
Show also the simulation results

Normal State:

Simulation when the generator connected Bus number is under Outage the power flow on Line is

Generator Shift Sensitivity factor = -0.295

New power Flow on Line 1-4 = old power flow (1-4)+ ali*∆Pi
Simulation Result:
Conclusion:

Discussion Questions:

1. What is meant by contingency Analysis.

2. Define generator Shift sensitivity factor

3.Why to use linear sensitivity factors for contingency selection.
