“The Impact of war Between Russia - Ukraine on Education and Human Rights”

Thesis

As we know, the war between Russia and Ukraine started in 2022 and is still

continuing until now. This war could have a negative impact on the education system

between the two countries, as well as the human rights they have, especially children's

freedom and the rights of children in every family.

Background Information

In the nearly two years since Russia launched its “special military operation” against

Ukraine, Russian society has gotten used to living against the backdrop of a brutal armed

conflict 1. Russians see the war in Ukraine as a defense against threats from NATO and the

West and report little personal effect from the conflict. Though it may seem strange, some

Russians are unhappy with the situation. Millions of people are opposed to authoritarianism

and bloodshed, and some of them openly express their views and resist.

The war that Russia made had a disastrous impact for Ukraine especially in their

education system and human rights. Ukranian were forced to wear a Russian uniform during

the class and sing their national anthem. Russian forces committed a litany of violations of

international humanitarian law and educational facilities. The main purpose was to erease

Ukraine’s national identity by this ideological, political, cultural and sometimes military re –

education 2. An Expert said information had been received that the Russian Federation was

actively promoting political perspectives about armed conflicts in schools. People in Ukraine

are being tortured, summary executions, sexual violence, enforced disappearances, and

looting of cultural property.

Topic Sentence / Country Position

Not only in Ukraine, this war also had a same effect to Russian people. Based on German

Public Broadcast Services, the government in Russia forced every children to support the war

. Russia government made a military training in most of Russian schools to prepare their

generation in the next war. The Russian society has gotten during the war. This attack will

certainly cause acceptance or rejection for some Russian people who had lost their human

rights. A Committee Expert said the State party’s efforts to reduce child mortality should be

recognised, as it was quite an effort, and had resulted in a significant reduction.

Related to that, may be said that education in Russia during this war still continued to

experience significant improvements and it even became easier to study abroad. Based on

research, seventy-four percent of Russian adults agree with the importance of having an

opposition in the nation's political system 5. Turbo – patriots people received more support

from the government and was facilitated with many war needs.

Recomendations

To address the issue, Russia has preventing child abandonment and stop suppressing voting

rights in their decision to vote for the continuation of this war. The main goal is to ensure a

safe and secure childhood in the Russian Federation, ensuring that education in Russia

continues to develop over time, and preparing a generation that will change this great chaos

with a more structured government and political system. Teachers also should have a

permitted to use their professional activities for political motivation to their students. Several

Government Organizations like The Ministry of Education, The Ministry of Science and

Higher Education, or even The Ministry of Justice should open many gaps for the public to

express their criticism and rights as Russian because they really contributed greatly to this

situation.
