Lesson Plan in Math 9

by: Jeany Pearl D. Eltagonde

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 85% of the students are expected to:
M9GE-III-c-1: proves theorems on the different kinds of parallelogram (rectangle,
rhombus, square)
M9GE-III-e-1: solves problems involving parallelogram

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Theorems on Different Kinds of Parallelogram
Reference: Mathematics Learner’s Material 9 and Nivera, G. & Lapinid, MN. (2013).
Grade 9 mathematics: Patterns and practicalities. Makati City: Don Bosco Press,
Inc.
Materials: manila paper, chalk, eraser, marker, ruler

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Seating arrangement
 Checking of attendance
B. Drill/Review – Properties of Parallelogram
C. Motivation – “Look Around You”
1. The teacher will ask the students to cite many objects as they can that are
square, rhombus, and rectangular in shape.
2. The teacher will ask the students how important are these shapes in their daily
lives?
D. Lesson Proper
A1 – Activity
“Who Am I”
1. The teacher will divide the class into five groups.
2. The teacher will give each group manila papers and markers.
3. The student will draw in the box the quadrilaterals/parallelograms being
described and its classification on the blanks being provided.
4. Each group will be given 5 minutes to do the task.
5. After that, the one member of the group will be randomly selected to post and
justify their answers to the class.
6. The group(s) who correctly classify and draw the right parallelogram will
receive 20 points and additional 5 points will be given to the group who made
the task ahead of time and 4, 3, and 2 points respectively will be given to the
succeeding groups.
7. Each group must prepare a yell for them to be recognized that they are done
already.
8. Each group must write the lists of their members in a ¼ sheet of paper.

1. A parallelogram with all sides congruent and not a square.

Drawing Classification

2. A parallelogram with all angles congruent, but not a square.

Drawing Classification

3. A parallelogram with all right angles, but not a rectangle.

Drawing Classification

A2 – Analysis

1. What makes a rectangle different from rhombus?

2. What makes a rhombus different from rectangle?
3. What makes a square a rhombus and a rectangle?
4. What are the theorems/properties of a rectangle?
5. What are the theorems/properties of a rhombus?
6. What are the theorems/properties of a square?

A3– Abstraction

Theorems on Rectangle

 Theorem 1: If a parallelogram has one right angle, then it has four right angles
and the parallelogram is a rectangle.
 Theorem 2: The diagonals of a rectangle are congruent.

Theorems on Rhombus

 Theorem 3: The diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular.

 Theorem 4: Each diagonal of a rhombus bisects opposite angles.

Theorems on Squares

 All the properties and theorems on rectangles and rhombuses are true to all
squares.

A4– Application
R E R
1. Given: rectangle RENT

a. Find ET if RS = 13 m
b. Find m∠TRN if m ∠ RNT =24 ° 24°

2. Given: rhombus ROAD
∠ ROA=108 °
If m , find:
a. m ∠ROB
b. m ∠ORB R A

IV. Evaluation

“I Belong”
1. In the same group, the teacher will give each group placards with label,
“square”, “rhombus”, and “rectangle”.
2. The teacher will mention twice the properties or theorems.
3. Each group will raise the placard(s) that has/have the property/theorem being
mentioned and after the count of three, each group must raise the placard(s).
4. Five (5) points will be given to the group who raises the correct/right placard(s)
and if the group incorrectly raises the placard(s) and forgot/does not raise one of
the placards that has the property being mentioned, that group will be given
only three (3) points.
5. The teacher will mention twelve (12) properties/theorems regarding on special
kinds of parallelogram.
