Assignment 1: Understanding the Ethics of My Major (10%)

Introduction:

Business ethics refers to the guidelines and principles which govern the way business is done,

Business ethics can also mean distinguishing between right and wrong. It is a regulation on

behavior of employees in a business setting. However, ethics is the accepted code of conduct

such that all stakeholders ranging from suppliers, customers, the government, the community

within which the business operates and the general public are satisfied with it. As Oprah Winfrey

once said” Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether

you did it or not.”

Ethical behavior:

Firstly, be well-behaved, use the computer as an ethical way, because of the futility of laws when

a person deals with himself\ herself and it includes not wasting time, not looking at what is

useful in it, or the wrong use of technology by snooping on others and interfering with their

privacy. And secondly, be Respectful of the intellectual property of others. By preserving

copyright and publishing rights, where images, books, articles, programs, and information

available in open sources on the Internet are attributed to people and sources that have been

referred to, so every user must observe the trust and the credibility of what he prepares or

benefits from, and not to steal the work of others and claim that they are his\ her own. Thirdly, be

a peaceful person and don’t harm others by looking at their private files or hacking their

computer. Fourthly, Be considerate of others. Be polite with others, some people may not like

your ideas or disagree with you at all, so you have to be considerate in this situation because

each person has his ideas and thoughts. Fifthly, be commit by-laws. Laws must be adhered to

regulate the use of the computer and information, such as preserving the user name and password

and not giving it to others.

Importance of Ethics in my Major:

Work ethics, especially positivity, are important from a business and technical perspective

and help in developing a personality for the better and improving your business and the

way you communicate with others. If you interact well with others, you can be a successful

leader and work comfortably with a group. and can make good friendships with other

students who share the same interest.

Albilad company sometimes deals with its trainees in unethical behavior, such as covering

up the mistakes of others, and they do not give the trainees a great opportunity to develop

their skills.

Ethical Issues in my major :

Workplace ethics are the set of values, moral principles, and It is the set of rules and regulations

that need to be followed by all staff of the workplace. But What would happen if an employee

violated ethical behavior and started making problems to colleagues and others at work?

A lot of employees start lying from their CV, by adding experiences they didn't acquire, and the

skills they don't have. And then it leads them to lie more about sensitive stuff like a sales

manager lying about the number of clients, or an employee lies about his\ her absence and gives

an unacceptable or unsatisfactory excuse for his\her mother's illness. To handle this situation the

person must admit that he\ she lies and it was wrong and he \she must sign a pledge not to lie

again. On the other hand, taking credits for other hard works is horrible and offensive behavior.

For example: when giving a report, the manager doesn't mention the team member's name but

claims the idea as his\hers, it is wrong behavior and it's an abuse of the rights of the other person

and advise
that he or she must admit that the work wasn't his\hers. Another ethical issue is privacy, this puts

people's personal information in a vulnerable position. If someone hacks into a computer system,

all this information is at his/her disposal. In this way, such crimes as identity theft can occur.

Some people exploit the privacy of others for a personal purpose, such as exchanging

information and documents, which leads to distrust of our users. Also one of the biggest issues is

Discrimination. Unfortunately, when a business treats an employee differently based on their

skills or reputation. Like, specially treat an employee because of his\her family name or because

the supervisor knows some relatives of that employee. Therefore the supervisor will treat him\her

better which leads to jealousy. The last issue is Accounting Issues, an especially critical problem

for publicly traded companies, which will put your company at risk. Such as falsifying financial

documents. To avoid that risk An especially critical problem for publicly traded companies,

which will put your company at risk. Such as falsifying financial documents. To avoid that risk

hire a trustable employee who can help you to pore over every number to make your records are

correct.

Conclusion

To sum up, some people say that everything is going smoothly in business it is not, it is based on

ethics, in addition to being integrity, the customer and colleagues will be able to trust you, and no

one will question you whether you did something wrong or not. In addition there are

many ethical behaviors you should have such as well-behaved, respectful, peaceful, considerate,

committed, and more. These behaviors will help you to increase your business if you were a

manager or to start your own business. On the other hand, some unethical behaviors may affect

your business in a bad way like lying to the manager, or taking credit for something you didn’t
do, and Privacy violation, discriminatory, accounting issues. By avoiding the mistakes of other

people and develop yourself, your business will increase and your business will be successful.
