B. Presentation/Learning Proper
One of the basic skills that you
must acquire in computer system
servicing is to independently
assemble and disassemble a
personal computer or simply set up
a PC.

In disassembling something,
sometimes you tend to do it at your
most convenient way. And with
this process, it may cause for the
device not work properly or worst
be broken. For sure you won’t
experience any problem in
connecting the computer
peripherals like the mouse,
keyboard, monitor and speakers in
the system unit. Unlike connecting
the devices inside the system unit,
you can’t connect whichever you
want to connect first.

Personal Computer Disassembly

Before starting computer
disassembly, make sure you have
the tools you need and they're all
close by and handy and be sure to
have a container to keep the screws
in, so you have them when you
want to put things back together
and to follow the Occupational
Health and Safety Protocol.

First and foremost, don’t forget to

make sure that the computer unit is
off before doing the first step listed
below.

Step1. Unplugging. Unplug all

cables connected to your system
unit to ensure safety.

Step2.Opening the Outer

Shell/Case. Unscrew the screws on
opposite side of where the different
ports are located.

Step3. Removing the System

Fan. Unplug the fan from the
motherboard. After unplugging,
unscrew the fan from the outside.
Now be able to remove the fan
from the PC.

Step4. Removing the CPU. Fan

As you can see from the image
above, the CPU fan is located on
the top of the heatsink. To remove
the fan, follow the wire and
remove it from its attachment to
the motherboard. Remove the lock
mechanism and screws securing it
from its place.

Step5. Remove the Power

Supply. Make sure to disconnect
all the wires connected to your
PSU from the motherboard, optical
drive, hard disk drive and other
components connected to it.
Unscrew the four screws at the
back of your system unit and push
the PSU from the outside and lift it
out.

Step6. Remove the CD/ DVD

Drive(s). Also known as Optical
Disc Drive. The first thing to do is
to unplug the ribbon from the back
of the drive. Once the first step is
done, pull on the tab securing the
drive-in place, then push it out
from the inside.

Step7. Remove the Hard Drive.

First, unplug the connector at the
back of the slot, and unplug the
other end from the motherboard.
Also unplug the SATA cable from
the motherboard and the hard
drive. The portable hard drive slot
is secured the same way the
CD/DVD drive is, with a tab. Pull
on the tab, then slide the slot out.

Step8. Remove the Memory.

(RAM) Push down on both tabs
holding the RAM in place, which
are located at both ends of the
RAM.

Step9. Remove the Motherboard.

The motherboard has seven screws
holding it to the frame, which are
indicated by large white circles
around them. Remove them and
then lift the motherboard out of the
frame.
Personal Computer Assembly
After disassembling of a computer
the next step you need to follow is
the process of assembling a
computer. Follow the procedure
and for sure you will assemble a
computer with ease.

Step 1. Prepare your workplace

1. Take Inventory: To make sure
that the parts are well accounted,
make and inventory of the parts.
Before starting to assemble a
computer make sure that you
prepare everything you need.
2. Make Space, Make Time:
Have enough space to allow you to
move freely and for the parts to be
placed in an organize manner to
proceed with the procedure with
minimal interruption.
3. Prepare Grounding
Protection: Make sure to use an
anti-static wrist strap or any surge
protector. You can use inexpensive
anti-static wrist strap or if there’s
no available surge protector you
can improvise one or touch
something that is grounded (sink
faucet / pipe, wire coming from the
ground part of a wall outlet) every
after 5 minutes.
4. Have the Drivers Ready: If you
have an internet connection, you
can just simply download the latest
drivers of your computer. If there’s
a missing driver, open the Device
Manager window and check the
status of your driver.

Step 2. Prepare the Motherboard

1. Make sure that you wear your
anti-static wrist strap and remove
the motherboard from the anti-
static bag. Handle it with care.
2. Inspect it carefully for any
visible defects before putting it in
the PC case/chassis.
3. Read the motherboard manual
for the installation process.

Step 3. Install the CPU

1. Unlock the retention arm to
open the CPU socket.
2. To properly install the CPU,
carefully line up the pins and place
the chip in its socket; An arrow or
a missing pin on one corner of the
chip will show you how to line
things up.
3. Lower the lever to lock the CPU
into place.

Step 4. Install the CPU Heat

Sink
1. There are various ways to install
the countless of coolers or heat
sink, read and follow the
manufacturer’s instruction
carefully. Thermal paste is very
important, it serves to fill in the
gaps for better contact, as no heat
sink surface is perfectly flat. Some
heat sinks have pre-applied thermal
paste, skip the application of the
thermal paste and proceed to the
next step.
2. Attach the clip that holds the
heat sink in place keeping in mind
that it may require a fair amount of
force. Again, follow the
instructions that came with the heat
sink.
3. Plug the CPU fan's power
connector into the proper
connector on the motherboard.

C. Application
The teacher will give an essay
activity on what they have learned
about the PC Assembly.

The students will write an essay on

what they’ve learned about the PC
D. Generalization Assembly.
The teacher will ask the students
what the importance of their lesson
is.
The students will have spoken self-
reflection that will be done in the
form of recitation.
