I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

- Discuss the ways of subjecting the indigenous population under the power of
Spain
- Evaluate the reaction of Filipino to Christianity and other ways of subjecting the
Indigenous Population under the power of Spain
- Appreciate the contributions of Spanish when they arrived to the country

THE PROCESS OF CHRISTIANITY

The spread of Christianism in the Philippines coincides with the colonization of Spaniards.
Christianization was the term used to describe the missioning of Friars. Friars attempting
to persuade indigenous peoples to accept Christianity.

NATIVE REACTION TO CHRISTIANITY

Most Indigenous People embraced Christianity because the Friars made it acceptable
for the indigenous people to accept Christianity. The continuity of traditional beliefs and
traditions of indigenous people has become essential to the success of
Christianization. Although many accepted the Christianity, there were those who
wanted to return to the old religion.

D. Activity
Before continuing our discussion. I have here fists a short activity for you to answer in a
given minute (10 minutes). This will help you further understand our lesson all throughout.

3. What is the reaction of Filipinos to Christianity?

SUMMARY OF THE LESSON
The main focus of the Spaniards in our country is to spread Christianity. They are not
focusing on academics. The only people who can study in the time of Spanish
Colonization are the Spaniards only and the rich people in the country. They failed to
improve or emphasize the importance of Vocational Education because they are focusing
on Christianity.
