Human Resource Management is an exciting subject and is a familiar field in my workplace. I
learned a lot about the scope of HRM and the shift towards Human Resource Development. Hiring the right person for the job is crucial in accomplishing the company’s goal. If a company has a dysfunctional HRM it will lead to numerous problems. I also learned the internal and external sources of recruitment, where we can utilize current workers to apply in higher positions or to absorb retirees again to the workforce if their experience and knowledge is needed by the organization and these are the advantages and disadvantage of internal and external recruitment. I also learned the different selection processes involved in HRM, where one should undergo various tests and exams for the company to know the applicants strengths and weaknesses. Interviews are also key elements in hiring personnel, either one on one or by panel of interviewers. In the aspect of HRD, employees need to be developed in order for them to be more efficient and effective in their respective duties and functions. Development of employees may be done through skills and training. Training can benefit the individual personnel and beneficial to the company. Trained personnel will have more wisdom and knowledge in their field as well as developed their behavior in the company. I also learned the training methods used by HRM like OJTs, mentoring, internships and lecturing. I have also learned performance management where employees may be rewarded for a job well done and ways for them to be rewarded either formal or informal. Appreciation is one way of showing your employees that you value their work ethic and accomplishment that lead to the success of the company. Recognition and rewards can boost the morale of the employee to be more productive and enthusiastic in performing their assigned task and complement the future success of the organization. I would also like to emphasize the importance of monitoring where HR can really assess the needs of the employee and find ways to adjust as needed in the training and development methods recently endorsed and come up with new intervention. Thank you for Sir Robert Roperos for extending his experience and knowledge in the field of Human Resource Management to me, a BSBA-OM student and at the same time a Government employee, that I could use this earned wisdom in real world application and make an impact in the development of our organization. For example, in a government agency/organization has complex organizational structure consisting of people manning the office/division, each division/office have personnel arrangements with different duties and responsibilities and these duties and responsibilities are aligned with organization mission and vision to have a clear pathway of where the organization is going in parallel with its employees. That is why having a Human Resource Management in a government institution is very important.
