ESSAY-----EXTENDED WRITING---(20MARKS)

STORY-An Experience of joining a sport competition

The first ray of the sun sneaked into my room. Chirping of birds,
whistling of breeze and rustling of leaves formed a melodious
symphony. ‘Jane, wake up! Help me to clean the store room.’ , shouted
by my mother. I trudged my heavy footsteps and went to clean it. I
glanced over a trophy while cleaning the store room. The memories
of my past clicked into its place piece by piece. I started to trot
down my memory lane.

Since young, I was suffered from asthma. I can’t do extreme

sports and activities as others could. My mother helped me to sign
up for a swimming program to help me overcome my condition and
she said that swimming was a paramount importance skill to learn. On
the first day of class, I was afraid of water but after a few months
of swimming lessons and guidance from my coach. I could swim
freely in the water.

In high school, swimming was included in the curriculum. I started

to practice my swimming skills every week. Soon, my teacher noticed
me and found out that I had the potential in swimming. ‘Jane, Do you
want to join the swimming competition?’ As opportunity doesn’t
knock twice, I promised the teacher to participate in the
competition. Before the competition, I kept my nose on the
grindstone and practice my swimming strokes all day and all night.
On that day, my heart was palpitating wildly. I tried to encourage
myself. ‘You know you can do it!’ I thought to myself just think about
my very first competition. While the sound, ’Beep’, the competition
started. My arm goes up into streamline position and I dive into the
water. I thought to myself, ‘Pull, Kick, Pull, Kick……’, ‘Almost to the
wall!’ “Beep”

In the end, the judge announced the winners. When my name was
announced as the second-place winner, I was on cloud nine. ‘Yes! I did
it!’ My mother was extremely proud of me. Tears of joy started
rolling down my face like a faulty faucet. This was my first
experience of joining a sport competition. I was glad that I had
learned a lot from the experience.
