THE ROLE OF HR IN THE DIGITAL WORLD

Digitalization in HR means an integrated system that is used in many HR practices like recruitment
and selection process, training and development, performance appraisal, payroll system, and other
similar functions. Today we live in a digital era where everything is digitalized. So, digitalization
also has been embraced in the HR sector by many small and enormous companies. It identifies
technology that helps HR managers formulate, process, and implement the delivery of HR
practices in a workplace to manage employees effectively and efficiently.

Advantages: There are many advantages of digital HRM. It facilitates HR practices and services
with less effort and in the shortest period.

• One of the biggest advantages of digital HRM is that it is cost-saving. For example: In the
digital recruitment and selection process, advertisements for the vacancy in a company are
given on an online platform. Most of the candidates come for the job by seeing online
advertisements like online newspapers, BDjob.com, and the company’s webpage. Hiring
through social media can require a minimum recruitment cost because it doesn’t incur extra
expenses for the advertisement of the process.
• It saves times a lot. All the work of HR can be done with a smaller number of times
because of digitalization.
• It increases efficiency at work by providing a birds-eye view of the whole organization
and proper management of resources and appropriate decisions.

Challenges:

• High initial cost: Company needs to invest lots of money initially to improve employee’s
technology knowledge, skills, and capabilities.
• Hamper organizational culture: Digitalization creates automation that destroys
cooperation, and collaboration leads to hampering organizational culture.
• Security and confidentiality: Digitally recorded data can be manipulated, corrupted, and
mismanaged by corrupted officials which can hamper company’s confidential &
employee’s personal information.
