IV. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

Engagement:
Prayer:
Before we start our lesson, let us stand and bow our
heads to feel the presence of God.
Ariel, kindly lead the prayer. Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us
our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against
us; and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from
evil. Amen.

Allow me to assess your prior understanding of the many

sorts of mixtures by having you engage in this activity

So, are you all ready to join the activity? We are ready, Teacher.

Okay, listen to my instruction carefully then.

INSTRUCTION:
I highly encourage everyone to RAISE YOUR HANDS if
you know the answer and wait until the teacher calls
you. Is the instruction clear? Are there any questios? None so far, Teacher!

Okay, let’s begin!

B. Establishing purpose of the lesson (ENGAGE)

Let’s proceed to main lesson for today!

There are two types of mixture. Mixtures can be further

classified as either Homogeneous and Heterogeneous.

What is Homogeneous mixture?

A Homogeneous mixture is a mixture where the

combined components are uniformly distributed
throughout the mixture in a single phase.

Homo means “the same”. Invisible/ you cannot see the

different phases/parts. Difficult to determine the
substances.

Teacher, the salt is gone!

Wow!

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new

lesson (ENGAGE)

What is Heterogeneous mixture?

A heterogeneous mixture is when the components are The oil will not dissolve with the water, Teacher!
not uniformly distributed or contain more than one state
of matter.

Hetero means different “different”. Visible/you can see

phases/parts. Easy to determine the substances.

potato, beans and ube commonly comprises Halo-halo.
The composition of the solution are non-uniformly
distributed. Yes, Teacher.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new

skills. (EXPLORE) #1

Can you follow our discussion?

Is Homogeneous and Heterogeneous clear to you?

Okay, then! Let’s check if you really understand the

difference between Homogeneous and Heterogeneous
mixtures! Let’s have a short experiment.

Are you ready, Dear students?

I brought some materials here that could help us

understand how these mixtures work.

Let’s begin with Homogeneous mixture.

What are these materials?

Right! It is salt and water. What do you think will happen

if we mix salt and water?

Teacher, a homogeneous mixture has a uniform

composition and appearance. Individual substances that
constitute a homogeneous mixture cannot be visually

mixture comprises two or more substances that can be
distinctly observed, and even separated relatively easily.
It is because when you mix salt and water together, you
form a mixture, which can also be called a solution. The Teacher, in Homogeneous, every part of the mixture is

Heterogeneous mixtures have composition which may

Homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures, Teacher.

A homogenous mixture is that mixture in which the

components mix with each other and its composition is
uniform throughout the solution. A heterogenous
mixture is that mixture in which the composition is not
uniform throughout and different components are
observed, Teacher.

What are these materials?

Right! It is oil and water. What do you think will happen

if we mix the oil and water together?

Alright, let’s see. Let’s mix the oil and the water
together.

Right! A heterogeneous mixture consists of two or more

phases. When oil and water are combined, they do not
mix evenly, but instead form two separate layers. Each
of the layers is called a phase.

F. DEVELOPING MASTERY (EXPLAIN)

Now, to test if you really understand the difference of

Homogeneous and Heterogeneous mixture, bring out 1
whole sheet of pad paper and draw two colums. One for
homogeneous and the other one is for heterogeneous.
Before that, I will discuss to you the directions. Do you
understand?

DIRECTION: Column A is for Homogeneous and Column

B for Heterogeneous. Choose the phrases from the box
below and write it on the right column where it belong.
