8. Tentative Title (Block Letters): DESIGN, FABRICATION AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF

A ROOFTOP BASED HYBRID PV-WIND POWER GENERATION SYSTEM IN MONGLA.

9. Background and present state of the problem:

To overcome global emission, researchers are engaged themselves to develop green power generation system, in
this regard hybrid renewable energy systems holds good prospect in energy sector which combine solar energy
with any renewable energy system that generates energy. In this regard, the optimal sizing of hybrid PV/wind
systems is very important [1]. It is found that PV/Wind/Fuel cell (FC) is not only economically justifiable, but
also good for environment that makes it an attractive option to supplement the energy supply than other
sources [2]. The optimal PV-wind hybrid system can be obtained by minimizing the total cost of the proposed
hybrid energy system and maintaining the loss of power supply probability (LPSP) of the system less than a
certain fixed value [3]. Main challenge of hybrid solar-wind power generation systems is to match voltage
fluctuation due to variations in wind speed, irregular solar radiation and frequency fluctuation for sudden
changes in active power by loads [4]. The share of renewable energy in Bangladesh is only 3%, which is due to
the high initial cost compared to fossil fuel-based system [5]. But renewable energy-based options become
economically viable when environmental cost, health hazard and lower operating cost are taken into
consideration [6]. This type of hybrid power generation system could bring positive changes in Bangladesh's for
domestic power supply [7]. Coastal area of Bangladesh has sufficient wind speed, in these areas are beneficial to
build hybrid power generation system [8]. It is found that PV-Wind hybrid power generation could be cost
effective as a decentralized electricity supply for the domestic use in the coastal area in Bangladesh [9]. As huge
population are living in a smaller land area of Bangladesh, hence rooftop-based hybrid power generation system
would solve the space limitation as well as energy demand [10]. Expert report predicts that around 2000MW
power could be generated from rooftop power generation system [11]. In this regard, a hybrid mini PV-Wind
power generation system will be built up on the rooftop in Mongla and its performance will be evaluated to
ensure its applicability to the mass people of Bangladesh.

10. Objectives with specific aims and possible outcome:

The main objectives of the project are mentioned below-
1. To design and fabricate the hybrid solar-wind system on the roof top
2. To investigate various parameters like power generation, voltage, speed, angle of incidence, wind
speed etc. to evaluate the overall system performance by varying wind turbine height and solar panel
angle.
After successful implementation of this research, this would help to establish the following outcomes -
1. This solar-wind hybrid system can be used for domestic power supply which will help to use power in
load shedding time.
2. This rooftop-based power generation system will be used in remote area for serving individual family.

11. Outline of Methodology/ Experimental Design:

To achieve the goal, the outline of reseated is mentioned below

1. System Construction:
 Based on literature review an optimum configuration will be considered.
 Locally available materials will be used as much as possible for wind turbine to lower the overall cost
so that it can be in affordable limit of mass people of Bangladesh.

2. Data Collection:
 By varying the height at roof top, optimization will be carried out.
 Overall system performance with fix angle and varying angle of solar panel will be considered to
evaluate performance.

3. Analysis of Electric load Demand:

 Daily, weekly and monthly power generation will be investigated which will be synchronized with the
power consumption trend of a small family and a correlation will be made.
