This Product Information informs you about the market introduction of the new Speedmaster SM 52 and the
new Speedmaster SM 74 press ranges.

Summary
At drupa 2008, Heidelberg will introduce the new Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 74 model
ranges. This will bring the current model ranges of Printmaster PM 52 and Speedmaster SM 52 as
well as Printmaster PM 74 and Speedmaster SM 74 together in one model range each. The new
Speedmaster presses have a productivity advantage from 2 to 20% compared with the current
ranges.
The concept "new Speedmaster" means that our customers can now obtain all automation steps from a low
automated standard delivery to a fully automated high-pile delivery press.
By introducing the new Speedmaster, Heidelberg will be in a better position to take into consideration the
requirements of our customers in terms of productivity and flexibility as well as investment possibilities.

To ensure further productivity advantages for our customers we offer additional accessory packages.
Depending on the model ranges either a Performance, Productivity or Flexibility Package will be offered.
The new Speedmaster SM 52 will be available for delivery as of July 2008 and the new Speedmaster SM 74
as of June 2008.

2. New catwalk concept for Speedmaster SM 74 and footprint of SM 74-2 and

SM 74-4 models
The new Speedmaster SM 74 models have a future-oriented catwalk concept. The drive
side will be equipped with a raised and accessible platform which is very adequate for
access between the printing units to carry out auxiliary work and which offers the
following advantages:
 Ergonomic and easy access to the ink fountains
 End-to-end platform from feeder to delivery, therefore faster intervention
between the printing units, if required
 No encumbering catwalks and steps on operating side during clamping and
unclamping of plates as well as during cylinder cleaning
 Observation of new safety regulations and laws
New ergonomic
design: example of
SM 74-4-H
Principally, the footprints of the new Speedmaster SM 74 models are identical

compared with those of the current Speedmaster SM 74. The footprint of the new
Speedmaster SM 74-5 with standard delivery is in alignment with the corresponding
model with high-pile delivery. In this case, the separate control cabinet is installed
directly either beside or behind the gallery.
However, the new Speedmaster SM 74 two- and four-color models with standard
delivery are an exception.
Compared directly with the current Printmaster PM 74 models the new Speedmaster
SM 74 two- and four-color models with standard delivery have now an "accessible
platform" on drive side. The advantage of the ergonomic design and the observation of
new safety regulations result in a larger footprint of approx. 70 cm in width. The
differences in footprint between Printmaster PM 74 and the new Speedmaster SM 74
are listed in the table. The compact design of the two- and four-color presses with
standard delivery could be maintained despite the larger press width as shown in the
example of the new Speedmaster SM 74-4. Both models feature a compact control
cabinet and the platform aligns at the first printing unit with the control cabinet.

3. Standard equipment and new optional equipment
Standard equipment:
The standard equipment of the new Speedmaster ranges was adapted and redefined to
meet market and delivery requirements. The table displayed here contains the new
standard equipment for the Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 74 presses with
standard and high-pile delivery.

More important information about SM 52:

 The manual setting of printing pressure on Speedmaster SM 52 with standard
delivery is no longer available. The motor driven printing pressure adjustment is
now standard.
 The new Speedmaster SM 52 with standard delivery is comparable with the
current Printmaster PM 52 and has the following standard equipment:
o Front lay protection with separating shoes
o Ultrasound double-sheet detector
o Transfer cylinder II with star wheels
o Sheet guide straps above transfer cylinder II
o Delivery drum with star wheels
The option "Optimized sheet guide" offers the possibility to upgrade presses
with standard delivery to the current Speedmaster SM 52 standard. This option
includes:
o Front lay protection with separator rolls
o Inductive double-sheet detector
o Lateral separating blowers
o Drive rollers
o Closed transfer cylinders II now as of 2 color models
o Sheet guide plates above transfer cylinder II (except for UV)
o Super Blue delivery drum
All presses with high-pile delivery or expanded stock range 0.6 mm or with Ani-
color are equipped with the "Optimized sheet guide".
 The guard on the standard delivery is always equipped with sound-insulating
material for sound reduction.
 The perfecting drum of the new Speedmaster SM 52 is now equipped with
TransferJacket. The rough chromium-plated perfecting drum is no longer
offered.
 The wash up tray sensor is standard for presses with AutoPlate.
 The ink fountain sensor is standard for presses with AutoPlate.
 The DryStar Ink dryer is no longer standard equipment for presses with high-
pile delivery. It is now an optional equipment.
More important information about SM 74:

 All Speedmaster SM 74 presses with standard and high-pile delivery up to six
printing units have as standard equipment HydroStar Compact consoles for
dampening solution treatment.
 The ultrasonic double-sheet detector is always standard for Speedmaster
SM 74 presses with standard and high-pile delivery.
 Only the fully automatic perfecting device is offered.
 The manual setting of printing pressure for Speedmaster SM 74 presses with
standard delivery is no longer available. The motor driven printing pressure
adjustment is now standard.
 Numbering and perforating devices for Speedmaster SM 74 presses with
standard delivery are no longer available.
 The acoustic equipment is an optional equipment and is offered for the new
Speedmaster SM 74 for sound reduction. In this respect we refer to the Product
Information "Acoustic Option / Sheetfed" which will send out soon.
More information about the press control system:

 The Prinect PressCenter Compact is available for all Speedmaster SM 52 and
Speedmaster SM 74 models as reduced option instead of the Prinect Press
Center. A detailed description of the press control systems can be found in the
TM
Product Information "Prinect Press Center / New Delivery Control Panel“,
PI_2007_PN_16_EN.
 When ordering Prinect Axis Control for Speedmaster SM 52 the customer will
receive a Prinect Press Center for the 50x70 format.
The new Sales Check Lists for Speedmaster SM 52 and SM 74 ranges contain a
detailed list of all standard and optional equipment as well as all required spare parts.
4. Packages
The standard equipment of the new Speedmaster SM 52 and SM 74 can be comple-
mented by specific packages that enhance quality and productivity. They also enable to
carry out attractive country-specific marketing actions. In addition, these packages
simplify the sales process at the customer's and the order process between sales
organization and the Order Management in Heidelberg.
The packages depend on the press range and the model and are offered as
Performance, Productivity and Flexibility Package for the new Speedmaster SM 52 and
Speedmaster SM 74. The table displayed here gives you an overview of the packages
and the available optional equipment.

5. Reduced options
The SSUs have now the possibility to take into consideration the productivity and the
investment possibility of our customers with specific reduced options and to elaborate
the adequate configuration together with the customer. Reduced options make it
possible to exclude individual accessories. The table below shows all possibilities for

6. Productivity considerations and price/performance comparison

The new Speedmaster models SM 52 and SM 74 have an advantage in productivity
from 2 to 20% if they are compared directly with their predecessors Printmaster
PM 52/74 and Speedmaster SM 52/74. Taking the new Speedmaster SM 74 as an
example, this is mainly due to the following technical innovations:

Furthermore, bringing together the Printmaster and Speedmaster ranges as well as the
following technical innovations

 Redesigned delivery for Speedmaster SM 74 with standard delivery
makes a better end-to-end price/performance positioning possible. The below chart
shows that our customers obtain with the new Speedmaster models a high-performance
press at the same price. Furthermore, the chart clearly shows that - by bringing
Printmaster and Speedmaster models together - our customers have the choice from a
low automated standard delivery up to a fully automated high-pile delivery. They are
now in a position to combine their press equipment in a very flexible and individual way.

7. Sales training
The Product Manager Meeting takes place in February 2008 in Heidelberg and we will Sales training
make available training material for the new Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster through world-wide
SM 74. Based on these product manager training sessions, sales training sessions training cascade
have to carried out world-wide.
At Drupa 2008, there will be short instructions especially for the sales staff on the new
Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 74 presses upon coordination prior to daily
fair opening.

12. Delivery and availability

The Speedmaster SM 52 will be available as of July 2008 and the Speedmaster SM Delivery with
74 as of June 2008. An exact coordination has to be done via Order Management. production program
June/July 2008
