How to Connect to Moon Remotely On Windows/Linux/Mac OS:

Connect via Putty:


1) Download putty using this link.
https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html. Under Package files,
choose either 64 bit x86 or 32 bit x86.

2) Open up the downloaded installer file. Keep clicking next, and don’t change any of the
default settings. When a pop up asks you “Do you want this app to make changes to this
device”, click yes. And wait for it to install.Open up the putty client (should be on your
desktop). Under Host Name: enter in moon.cs.torontomu.ca, don’t change any of the
other settings, click Open.
3) Where it says “login as: ”, enter your Computer Science username (this is not the same as
your my.ryerson username). If you do not know your Computer Science username you
can email request@cs.torontomu.ca. Once you have entered in your CS username click
enter.
4) It will ask you to enter your password. If this is your first time logging in, you will have the
default password which is MMDDXXXX, where MM is your birth month, DD is your birth
date, and XXXX is the last 4 digits of your student number. If not then enter the password
you changed it to. If you do not remember your password you can email
request@cs.torontomu.ca to get it reset. When it is reset then it will become the default
password MMDDXXXX. Note when you type in your password you will not see any visual
cues, but it is getting entered in.

5) If this is your first time logging in, it will ask you to change your password.
It will ask you to enter your “Current Kerberos password:” Enter in the exact same password
you entered in step 5. It should be the default one MMDDXXXX.

6) It will ask you to enter a new Kerberos password. You need to pick a strong password,
that's at least 8 characters long, with a capital letter, a number, and a special character.
Ideally you would like to pick one that you will remember. Note: You will not see any visual
cues for entering in your password. After retyping the new kerberos password, the putty
client will close. Open it up again and follow steps 3-5.
Connect via Windows Powershell (Follow on linux):

1) Open windows powershell. On Windows go to the windows search/click on windows


button and type in windows powershell.

2) Note: If you are on Linux, you will follow the same steps, but you will open up Terminal.

3) Type in ssh username@moon.cs.torontomu.ca, then click enter. Where username is


your computer science username (not your my.torontomu username). If you don’t know
your CS username you can email request@cs.torontomu.ca.

4) It will ask you to enter your password. If this is your first time logging in, you will have
the default password which is MMDDXXXX, where MM is your birth month, DD is your
birth date, and XXXX is the last 4 digits of your student number. If not then enter the
password you changed it to. If you do not remember your password you can email
request@cs.torontomu.ca to get it reset. When it is reset then it will become the default

Connect via Terminal on Mac OS

1) Open Terminal which is a default application on Mac OS. You can use other command
line interface if you are using another one.

2) Type in ssh username@moon.cs.torontomu.ca, then click enter. Where username is


your computer science username (not your my.torontomu username). If you don’t know
your CS username you can email request@cs.torontomu.ca.

3) It will ask you to enter your password. If this is your first time logging in, you will have
the default password which is MMDDXXXX, where MM is your birth month, DD is your
birth date, and XXXX is the last 4 digits of your student number. If not then enter the
password you changed it to. If you do not remember your password you can email

How to Access your Computer Science WebMail:
1) Go to https://webmail.cs.torontomu.ca/. Note that this is your CS email. This is different
from your my.torontomu email. This is where you will get information from the Computer
Science department.

2) For Username enter in your short CS username. Do not include @torontomu.ca or


@moon.cs.torontomu.ca. Just use the short username. For example if your name is
John Smith, its likely your username would be jsmith.

3) For your password enter in your Computer Science password (not your my.torontomu
password). If you do not know your password you can email
request@cs.torontomu.ca. They will reset your password to the default, which is
MMDDXXXX, MM being your birth month, DD being your birth date, and XXXX being the
last 4 digits of your student number.
4) If logged in correctly you should see this page. You should see this.
