Prob 1
A simple U-tube manometer was used to measure
the pressure of water in pipe. The level of mercury
was found to be 75cm below the centerline of the
pipe level of mercury & the other limb was 20cm
below the centerline of pipe. Find the pressure of
water in pipe, as static head in KN/sq-m

Prob 2
If the atmospheric pressure is 920mbars, abs and a
gauge attached to a tank reads 400mm Hg vacuum,
what is the absolute pressure within the tank?

Prob 3
A gauge is connected to a tank in which the pressure
of the fluid is 276KN/sq-m above atmosphere. If the
absolute pressure of fluid remain unchanged but the
gauge is in a chamber where the air pressure is
reduced to a vacuum of 63.5cm Hg. What reading in
KN/sq-m will then be observed?

Prob 4
If the atmospheric pressure is 760mmHg. What will
be the height of water in a water barometer if the
temperature of the water is 32°C; 60°C ? Be as
precise as possible.

Prob 5
The tire of an airplane is inflated at sea-level to
410KN/sq-m. Assuming the tire does not expand,
what it’s the pressure within the tire at elevation
9000m? Assume standard atmosphere. Express the
answer in KN/sq-m and KN/sq-m abs

Prob 6
If the atmospheric pressure were equivalent to 10m
of water, what would be the reading on a barometer
containing an alcohol (S=0.84) if the vapour pressure
of the alcohol at the temperature of observation were
17KN/sq-m, abs?

Prob 7
A Mercury manometer (shown in fig) is connected to
a pipeline carrying water at 65°C and located in a
room where the temperature is also 65°C. If the
elevation of point B is 3m above A and the mercury
reading is 120cm, what is the pressure in the pipe in
KN/sq-m? Repeat, assuming all the temperatures are
20°C. Be as precise as possible, and note the effect
of temperature.
