1. Introduction

Scope of this manual


This manual describes how to use and look after all
dental units in the FD 7000 range. The range
includes the following versions:
- 7000A1
Chair mounted cuspidor, whip arm
instruments
- 7000A2
Chair mounted cuspidor, hanging tube
instruments
- 7000B1
Floor mounted cuspidor, whip arm instruments
- 7000B2
Floor mounted cuspidor, hanging tube

Warnings and precautions


• Read this user's manual and the associated
documentation before using the dental unit or
any of its instruments or accessories. Make
sure that you know how to use the dental unit
before starting to use it.
• Do not let children or unauthorized people play
with or use the unit or any of its instruments or
accessories.
• Only use instruments and accessories listed in
this manual with the unit.
• Only carry out the maintenance procedures
listed in this manual. All other maintenance
MUST be carried out by authorized service
personnel.
• For the dental unit to function efficiently it
must be regularly serviced.
• If the quality of the water being used with the
unit is poor, an additional water filter may
have to be installed. (Refer to the installation
manual)
• The compressed air being used with the unit
must be dry and oil free. The air compressor
must be fitted with an air dryer and/or
condensation valve. (Refer to the installation
manual)

3. Using the dental unit

Switching the dental unit on


Switch the dental unit on with the ON/OFF switch
that is located on the side of the floor box. When
you switch the dental unit on you will hear an
audible signal and the switch light will come on.

Note
If the dental chair is connected to the power supply
via the dental unit (i.e. the dental chair does not
have its own power supply), the dental chair will
automatically come on when the unit is switched
on.
Note that the chair's ON/OFF switch must be in the
ON position for this to happen.

Switch the dental unit off with the same switch.
When the unit is switched off the switch light will
go out.
ALWAYS switch the unit off at the end of each work
day and at weekends.

Rotating the cuspidor
The cuspidor can be rotated approximately 80°
away from the chair. This may be necessary if the
assistant needs additional working space when
special dental procedures are being carried out.

Positioning the instrument bridge


Move the instrument bridge in the required
position with the handles on the sides of the bridge.
The height of the instrument bridge can be
adjusted by lifting it up or pushing it down.
If you wish to lock the instrument bridge at a
particular height turn the height locking knob
clockwise.
To unlock the bridge turn the knob anticlockwise.

If the instrument bridge "drifts" out of position, the
friction of the arm joints needs to be increased.
Contact your service technician for assistance.

Move the instrument cart in the required position
with the handles on the side of the instrument
bridge.

Using the instruments
When an instrument is lifted from its holder it
becomes the "active" instrument and no other
instrument, except the syringe and polymerisation
light, will operate while the active instrument is in
use.

The Micromotor

Switching it on and off


Lift the micromotor from its holder and press and
hold down the foot lever. The micromotor will start.
To stop the micromotor, remove your foot from the
foot lever.

Adjusting the speed


Slide the foot lever to the right to increase the
speed of the micrometer.
Slide the foot lever to the left to decrease the speed.

Activating the spray
Press the right-hand foot switch once to switch the
instrument spray on. When the spray is on the
green M light on the dentist's display will come on.
Press the right-hand foot switch a second time to
switch the spray off. The green light will go out.

Chip blower
Double press and hold down the foot lever. Chip
blow will start. To stop chip blow remove your foot
from the foot switch.

Reversing the rotation


Press the left-hand foot switch down once to reverse
the direction of rotation of the micromotor (anti-
clockwise). The red M light on the dentist's display
will come on when the micromotor is set to rotate in
the reverse direction.
Press the foot switch a second time to switch the
direction of rotation of the micromotor back to the
normal (clockwise) direction. The red M light will go
out.

The Turbine
Turbine

Switching it on and off


Lift the turbine from its holder and press and hold
down the foot lever. The T light will come on and
the turbine and spray will start. To stop the turbine
remove your foot from the foot lever. The T light
will go out.
Note that there is no speed control with the turbine.

Chip blower
Double press and hold down the foot lever. Chip
blow will start. To stop chip blow remove your foot
from the foot switch.

The Scaler

Switching it on and off


Lift the scaler from its holder and press and hold
down the foot lever. The scaler will start. To stop the
scaler, remove your foot from the foot lever.

Selecting the power level


The maximum power level of the scaler can be set
at either 100%, 50% or 30%. The lights next to the
SP key indicate what power level has been selected.
To change the power levels press the SP key
repeatedly until the light combination for the
power level you require appears. The power level/
light combinations are as follows:
- 100% power = no lights on
- 50% power = top light on
- 30% power = bottom light on

Note that the scaler power level will automatically


return to the 100% level, i.e. no lights on, whenever
the unit is switched off and then on again.

Adjusting the power level
To increase the power of the scaler slide the foot
lever to the right to decrease the power slide the
foot lever to the left.
Note that when the foot control is moved to the
maximum power position, the maximum power
level will be the level selected using the SP key.
For example, if you selected the 50% power level
the power level can adjusted from 0% to a
maximum of 50%.

The Polymerisation light (Satelec)
Lift the polymerisation light from its holder and
press the button on the side of the instrument. The
light will come on. The light will automatically go
out after 30 seconds. During the time the light is on
you will hear a "beep" every ten seconds. If you
wish to turn the light out before the 30 seconds
elapses, press the button a second time.

For more information on how to operate and service


the Satelec polymerisation light refer to the
documentation supplied with the light.

Lift the polymerisation light from its holder and
press the button on the top of the instrument. The
light will come on. The light will automatically go
out after 35 seconds. After seventeen seconds you
will hear a beep. If you wish to turn the light out
before the 35 seconds elapses, press the button a
second time.

the Lysta polymerisation light refer to the
documentation supplied with the light.

The Syringe - 3-way
Press the left-hand button to activate the water
spray. Press the right-hand button to activate the
air. Press both buttons together to activate the air/
water spray.

The Syringe - 6-way


There is a heater in this syringe that allows you to
have either hot air and water or cold. To switch the
heater on twist the collar at the end of the handle
anticlockwise - the indicator spot will be green. To
switch the heater off twist the collar at the end of
the handle clockwise - the indicator spot will be
black.
Press the left-hand button to activate the water

air. Press both buttons together to activate the air/

Dentist's control panel

Bowl rinse - on/off


Briefly press the bowl rinse key on the dentist's
control panel to switch the bowl rinse on. Rinsing
will automatically stop after the preset rinse
duration has elapsed. If you wish to stop the bowl
rinse before the preset rinse time has elapsed, press
the bowl rinse key a second time.

Press and hold down the bowl rinse key for the
amount of time that you wish the bowl rinse to
operate (minimum one second, maximum ten
seconds). Now, when the bowl rinse key is pressed to
rinse the bowl it will remain on for the same
amount of time as the bowl rinse key was held
down.

Glass fill - on/off


Briefly press the glass fill key on the dentist's
control panel to switch the glass fill on. Filling will
automatically stop after the preset fill duration has
elapsed. If you wish to stop the glass fill before the
preset fill duration has elapsed, press the glass fill
key a second time.

Glass fill - setting the fill duration


Press and hold down the glass fill key for the
amount of time that you wish the glass fill to
operate (minimum one second, maximum ten
seconds). Now, when the glass fill key is pressed to
fill the glass it will remain on for the same amount
of time as the glass fill key was held down.

Door lock (Option)


If a remote door lock is in use and has been
connected to the dental unit this key is used to
activate it.

Auxiliary (Aux) key


If any other equipment is being used with the unit
this key can be used to activate it.

Water bottle
To remove and refill the water bottle unscrew it.

Tray holder
The tray holder is attached to a tray holder arm
which is attached to the underside of the instru-
ment bridge on either the left- or the right-hand
side. The arm is angled allowing the tray to be
positioned either high or low depending on which
way round the arm is attached.
To position the tray holder loosen the two tray arm
knobs, move the tray holder to the required posi-
tion and then tighten the two knobs.

The tray holder will hold one standard size tray or


two half size trays. A double size tray holder is
available as an option.

The Suction Arm

Positioning the suction arm


The height of the suction arm can be adjusted by
squeezing the locking handle, on the underside of
the top part of the suction arm, and pulling the
suction arm up or pushing it down. When it is at
the required height, release the locking handle.

Warning
Do not leave the suction arm under the chair
backrest as the arm could be damaged if you lower
the chair.

Using the suction nozzles

Starting and stopping the suction


When a suction nozzle is lifted from its holder
suction will automatically start. When the suction
nozzle is replaced suction will stop.

Adjusting the suction
Slide the knob on the side of the nozzle upwards to
increase the suction and downwards to decrease the

To attach the suction tip push it into the opening at
the end of the suction nozzle.

Press the green button to activate the water spray.
Press the blue button to activate the air. Press
both buttons together to activate the air/water

Suction arm controls

Bowl rinse - on/off


Briefly press the bowl rinse key on the assistant's
control panel to switch the bowl rinse on. Rinsing
will automatically stop after the preset rinse
duration has elapsed. If you wish to stop the bowl
rinse before the preset rinse time has elapsed, press
the bowl rinse key a second time.

rinse the bowl it will remain on for the same

Glass fill - on/off


Briefly press the glass fill key on the assistant's
control panel to switch the glass fill on. Filling will
automatically stop after the preset fill duration has
elapsed. If you wish to stop the glass fill before the
preset fill duration has elapsed, press the glass fill
key a second time.

If a remote door lock is in use and has been
connected to the dental unit this key is used to
activate it.

The Dental Light

Switching it on and off


The switch on the underside of the arm that holds
the dental light is used to switch the light on and
off.

Adjusting the light intensity

4. Cleaning, disinfecting and sterilising the unit

Suction system
For information on how to clean the suction system,
refer to the documentation supplied with the
system

Suction hoses
After every patient allow one glass of water to be
sucked through each suction hose.

Twice a day, midday and evening, allow one glass of


suction hose cleaning agent to be sucked through
each hose. Make sure that you prepare and use it in
accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Twice a day, midday and evening, empty and rinse


the suction hose filters. The suction hose filters are
located inside the connectors that connect the
suction tubes to the cuspidor. To empty the filter,
pull the suction hose connector from the cuspidor.
Lift the filter out and rinse it. Also empty any
debris that is inside the connector. Replace the
filter and reconnect the suction hose connector to
the cuspidor.

Instruments and suction nozzles
For information on how to clean and sterilize the
instruments, refer to the documentation supplied
with them.

Caution
Switch the dental unit off before you remove any
instruments. Press the syringe air and water
buttons to relieve any pressure before removing the
syringe.

Suction nozzles can be disconnected from the hoses


and autoclaved.

Unit surfaces
Unit surfaces must cleaned and disinfected at least
once a day with a suitable cleaning and disinfecting
agents. Make sure that you prepare and use them
in accordance with the manufactures instructions.
Do not uses abrasive cleaning agents.

Note that the rubber instrument support can be


removed from the instrument bridge and
autoclaved.

The rollers and holders at the end of the whip arms
can be removed so that the instrument tubes can be
cleaned.
To remove the roller and holder slide the holder up
slightly until the roller can be removed, and then
remove the holder.

When replacing the roller and holder note that the


two flats on the roller axle must engage in the slot
in the holder, so that the holes line up, before the
roller and holder can be slide back onto the whip
arm.

On units that are fitted with hanging tube


instruments the instrument holders can be
removed.
To do this tilt the instrument holder forward as far
as it will go, and then lift the holder up slightly
until it disengages from the holding pin. The holder
can then be removed.

To replace the instrument holder place the instru-
ment holder so that the holding pin in the
instrument bride goes into the hole in the holder
bracket. Push the instrument holder down to lock it
in position.

5. Maintenance

Oil collector
The cotton pad in the turbine oil collector must be
replace monthly or more frequently if free oil starts
to appear. The oil collector on the underside of the
instrument bridge. To remove and empty the oil
collector unscrew it.

On units that are fitted with hanging tube
instruments the instrument holders can tilted to
make it easier to remove and replace instruments.
If a holder becomes loose it can be tightened with
screws on the side of the holder.

Instrument water adjustment
The supply of water to the instruments can be
adjusted. This is done by turning the regulator
screws located on the side of the instrument bridge
with a small screwdriver.
The side on which the regulators are located will
depend on whether the unit is left- or right-handed.

6. Service
Every six months a FINNDENT approved service
technician must carry out the following inspection
and service tasks:
• check the output pressures of the air and water
control valves
• check the air pressure of the instruments
• check to see if the filters in the air and water
control valves need replacing
• check the operation of the instruments and if
necessary replace and instrument O-rings or
seals

Caution
Switch the dental unit off before you remove
any instruments. Press the syringe air and
water buttons to relieve any pressure before
removing the syringe.
