Sounding Italian
You’ve probably said piace often enough to know now that the Italian c
before e gives a sound like the English `ch´. You can practise with these
words: piace, dicembre, Cesare, ceci.
And you’ve done enough counting to realise that c gives the same `ch´
sound before i: dieci, cinque, quindici, cappuccino, ceci.
To get this `ch´ sound before a, o and u you need the letter combination ci:
ciao, diciannove, calcio, diciotto, ciuffo.
Good times
You’ll soon want to give the dates of your birthday and your name
day in Italian. First you need to learn the months of the year. Practise
reciting them with your teacher.
