CONCEPT NOTES
Plants produce offspring through either sexual or asexual reproduction.
In sexual reproduction, new plants are obtained from seeds while asexual
reproduction can give rise to new plants without seeds. Here we will tackle sexual
reproduction. Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of male and female gametes
to form a zygote. Sexual reproduction happens through pollination.
Pollination is the transfer of pollen from the anther to the stigma of a flower.
The following are the types of pollination:
Self-fertilization / self-pollination -Pollen lands on the stigma of the same
flower.
Cross-fertilization - Pollen lands on the stigma of another flower.
