AIM
To familiarize the students with concepts related to the operation analysis and stabilization of
control systems
OBJECTIVES
 To understand the operation of Electrical machines and transformers
 To understand the open loop and closed loop (feedback ) systems
 To understand time domain and frequency domain analysis of control systems required for sta-
bility analysis.
 To understand the compensation technique that can be used to stabilize control systems

Construction and operation of D.C. generators – emf equation – characteristics – principle of


operation of D.C. motors. Principle of operation of transformers -parameters of transformers –
regulation, losses and efficiency - introduction to three phase transformers.

Constructional details and principle of operation of single phase induction motors and Three Phase
Induction motors– servomotor, stepper motor, variable reluctance motors.-applications.

The Unity feedback system is characterized by the open loop transfer function .
Determine the gain K, so that the system will have the damping ratio of 0.5. For this value of
k, determine the settling times, peak overshoot, and time to peak overshoot for a unit step

A unity feedback control system has an open loop transfer function . Find the rise
time, percentage overshoot, peak overshoot, peak time and settling time with 5% error for a
step input of 12 units. (16)

Plot the Bode diagram for the following transfer function and obtain the gain and phase cross over
