The alignment of learning outcomes is critical in educational planning and curriculum creation to
ensure the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes. Starting with the Institutional
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO), the emphasis is on developing the primary objectives and
goals that will lead the educational institution’s vision for the Program Intended Learning
Outcomes. These Institutional ILOs serve as the foundation for the entire curriculum, directing
the information, abilities, and attitudes that students should develop throughout their
educational journey.

The alignment process continues with the Program Intended Learning results, which connect the
Institutional ILOs to the specific outcomes wanted for the whole teacher education curriculum.
This step ensures that the institution’s overall goals are transformed into achievable and

measurable outcomes at the program level, giving an outline for designing courses and learning
experiences that are aligned with the institution’s educational objectives. The Program ILOs serve
as a connection between the institutional vision and the specific learning objectives that students
are expected to attain at the end of the teacher education program.

Further down the alignment structure, the Course Intended Learning Outcomes focus on the
specific goals for each courses in the teacher education curriculum. By matching the Course ILOs
with the Program ILOs, educators may ensure that each course makes a significant contribution
to the overall program goals and objectives. This alignment promotes unity and consistency in
the learning experiences offered to students, allowing for an easy path toward achieving the
required learning outcomes at both the course and program levels.

Outcomes-based instruction provides a framework for creating learning activities that encourage
active student engagement, critical thinking, and effective use of knowledge. The section ILOs are
incorporated into this learning activity to define the specific objectives of each unit of the
curriculum, telling students what they need to learn to achieve. Additionally, the assessment
phase provides for ensuring that desired student achievement and learning outcomes receive
attention, and provides students and teachers with useful feedback on the success of the teaching
and learning process.
