Fundamental Safety Instructions
 The supplied machine unit corresponds to the state of the art and is
operationally reliable. Risks may emanate from this machine unit if it is used by
untrained personnel or in an inexpert way or not in accordance with the
instructions.
 The machine may be mounted, erected and started for the first time by the
manufacturer’s personnel or personnel who were authorized by the
manufacturer to do so in writing only. The same applies to disassembly and re-
installation of the machine, e.g. referring to a change of location.
 Use in accordance with the instructions also comprises the observance of
prescribed installation, disassembly and re-installation and start-up
instructions, just as operating and maintenance instructions.
 To avoid personal injury, modifications to the machine are permitted with the
explicit, written release by the manufacturer of the machine only.
Duties of the User / Client
 The personnel must have access to the operating instructions at any time.
 Any person involved in operation and servicing (inspection, maintenance,
repair) of this machine unit in the plant of the user must have read and
understood the complete operating instructions, especially the safety
instructions. We recommend to the user to obtain a corresponding written
confirmation from these employees.
 Any working method affecting or endangering safety of man and material is to
be refrained from.
 By corresponding instructions and checks, the user has to ensure a clean and
clearly arranged workplace at the machine.
 The machine personnel must be regularly instructed in arrangement, functional
principle and operation of the E-stop equipment, zone quick stop equipment,
lockout switches and main switches.
 E-stop equipment, zone quick stop equipment, lockout switches and main
switches must be checked for perfect functioning at least yearly.
 In immediate proximity of the machine, there must be appropriate, sufficient
fire-fighting devices. The user has to inform himself on type and scope with the
local authorities or the responsible fire insurer. Fire-fighting devices are to be
checked regularly and replaced, if required.
 The user has to make sure that the personnel exclusively wear approved and
tested personal safety equipment according to the regional regulations only.
 The user must ensure that only personnel meeting the corresponding
requirements described in the following paragraphs and with the necessary
qualification work on the machine.
 Explanation of Symbols
Requirements on Operating and Maintenance In the present operating instructions, symbols are used in different places. These

Duties of Operating and Maintenance Personnel
 Any person involved in operation and servicing (inspection, maintenance, repair) of this machine
unit in the plant of the user, must have read and understood the complete operating instructions,
especially the safety notices.
 The user is obliged to inform his superior immediately on any occurringunknown or unusual
noises and operating conditions of the machine.
 The operativeness of components for operation and adjustment must not beaffected or
influenced.
 Prior to commencement of any kind of work on the machine, the followinginstructions have to
be observed:
 Do not wear loose clothing!
 Long hair has to be covered by a hairnet!
 Dangling jewelry, rings and other personal objects that may get caught bythe machine have to
be removed!
 Prior to commencement of the repair work, all “Fundamental and Special Safety Measures”
described in chapter “Maintenance” are to be performed.
 Remove safety equipment for maintenance purposes only:
 when all drives and machine parts are out of operation,
 when the main switch is switched off and secured against unauthorizedswitching back on.
 Mounted doors and flaps may be opened after the machine has stopped only. Observe notice signs!
 Before start after maintenance and repair work, it is to be checked whether:
 all safety equipment was mounted properly or is closed and fully operative,
 all persons have left the machine or its danger area,
 all ladders, treads and the like and tools, cables, compressed-air pipes andmachine parts which
are not used any more have been removed.
 If a functional test with the motor in operation is inevitable, utmost caution isadvised!
The following is to be observed:
 Do not work in immediate proximity of a roll infeed or moving mechanism with the machine in
operation!
 Make sure that the machine runs at base speed and that a reliable adult person is positioned at
the E-stop button or zone quick stop button. The person at the E-stop button or zone quick stop
button must have been instructed in the operation and the dangers of the machine and must be
within visual and audible range of the person in the danger area! In case of imminent danger,
this person must stop the machine immediately by pressing the E-stop button or zone quick
stop button!
 When lifting loads by lifting devices, the following is to be observed:
 Lifting devices and ropes, hooks and the like must have been tested and approved and be
appropriate for the weight of the load to be lifted.
 Lifting devices and ropes, hooks and the like must not be damaged in anyway.
 Ropes, hooks and the like may be attached in the places indicated in theoperating
instructions only.
 Lifting devices, such as lifting hoists, may be attached to sufficiently stablepoints of the
machine only.
 During operation and maintenance of the machine, the regional safety regulations and the
regulations for the prevention of accidents are to beobserved.
