 To transport means to carry something

from one place to another.

 All living things has to transport
substances through out the body:
Food and oxygen need to be
transported to carry out life processes
Carbon dioxide and other waste
materials have to removed from the
body
Medium to transport materials:
1. Flowering 2. Most animals
plants use water. is blood.
Our body has an efficient system
to transport food, nutrients,
oxygen, water and other materials
to where they are needed. It also
transport carbon dioxide and other
wastes to where they are to be
removed.

Transport in animals is done by

the BLOOD SYSTEM or in the
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM.
In humans, the circulatory
system is made up of three parts:

1. BLOOD: life fluid that flows

around the body
2. Heart: an organ that pumps
the blood around the body
3. Blood vessels: tubes through
which the blood flows

B. BLOOD VESSELS
Blood flows around the body through a
network of TUBES called BLOOD VESSELS.
There are three kinds of blood vessels:

1. ARTERIES
2. VEINS
3. CAPILLARIES
Three kinds of blood vessels:

A. ARTERIES: These are wide, muscular,

and thick walled. They carry BLOOD
AWAY from the heart. This blood is
reach in oxygen and nutrients.
Three kinds of blood vessels:

A. ARTERIES:
B. VEINS: These are wide, thin walled
blood vessels. They carry blood BACK
to the heart.
B. VEINS:
C. CAPILLARIES: These are narrow & the
smallest blood vessels and have very thin
walls. Oxygen and carbon dioxide are
exchanged in the lungs; food and waste
products are exchanged in the small
intestines through capillaries.

C. HEART
The heart is a clenched fist-sized organ
that is situated between two lungs. It
acts like a pump and sends blood through
the blood vessels to all parts of the
body.
C. HEART
When the heart relaxes:
 Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs
enters the heart through the veins
 Blood with less oxygen enters the heart
from the rest of the body through the
veins.

When the heart muscle contracts:
 Blood with less oxygen from the rest of the
body is pumped into the lungs through the
arteries.
 Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs is pumped
to the rest of the body through the
arteries.
