4. SYSTEM PURPOSE AND SCOPE
System Purpose and Scope:
Wolter / Penn Barry fans are leading ventilation products for commercial and light industrial
applications, including energy recovery units, make‐up air systems, kitchen hoods, smoke
extract fans, pressurization fans and Supreme Fan supply and exhaust products.

Ceiling Fans are quiet. They are designed for applications where a low noise, high reliability
ceiling or cabinet fan is required. With air capacities from 30 to 1600 CFM, they’re ideally
suited for use in ventilating bathrooms or other low to medium CFM applications. Housing
are fabricated of sturdy galvanized steel to ensure durability. Acoustic insulation, in
combination with matched motor and wheel assemblies, lower sound levels and improves air
performance. Further, motors are mounted on vibration isolators to minimize noise levels.
Together, these features ensure years of problem free, quiet operation.

Direct Drive and Belt drive Centrifugal Inline Fans are widely used in square ducts as clean air
boosters in both supply and exhaust systems where the installation of conventional blowers
is impractical. Their compact design gives designers an excellent alternative to conventional
blowers. Centrex Inline fans can be installed either horizontally, vertically or at any angle
determined by the duct work. Full size removable panels enable easy access to the fan
interior.

Stipulated usage

Duct Fans can be used for ventilation of:

‐ Clean air
‐ Air which has little dust and grease content
‐ Slightly aggressive gages and fumes (please refer to our engineers)
‐ Media up to a maximum air density of 1.3 kg/m³
‐ Flow volumes at temperatures ranging from ‐30 ᵒC to 40 ᵒC (out of these temperatures
please see the catalogue information)
‐ Mediums up to max. humidity of 95% (avoid quick changes between dry and moistly air)

9. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
GENERAL MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

Checking vibration levels.

◆ Check the level of vibrations with which the fan is operating.

Cleaning the fan surface.

◆ Clean the fan surfaces with clean, mild water. Do not use pressurized water to clean
the interior of the silencers as this may damage the Rock wool and reduce attenuation.

Inspection of the inside of the fan.

◆ Eliminate any type of foreign object that may be found in the interior. Failure to
eliminate these objects may subsequently cause breakage to the impeller.

Inspection of the impeller.

◆ Keep the impeller clean to avoid dirt build-up that may cause imbalances, may increase
the levels of vibration that can damage the motor bearings
◆ Ensure that the impeller blades have no grooving or breakages that may affect the
correct working order of the fan.
◆ If the impeller shows significant alterations, it is advisable to repair or replace the same
Inspect the bearings for temperature rise.
PROCEDURES
EVERY MONTH

◆ Inspect the motor/ coupling: Abnormal noises, vibrations, excessive heating, wear signs,
misalignment or damaged parts

◆ Clean the motor enclosure to remove dust or oil spills.

◆ Measure insulation rating of the motor as per rating.

◆ Check condition of cables, cable glands, terminal boxes and seals.

◆ Check bearings for abnormal noise, vibration or other abnormal operating conditions, like
motor temperature rise.

◆ Check level and condition of lubricants. Replace/ Replenish.

◆ Check cooling fan condition. Clean the air inlet & outlet openings to ensure a free air flow over
the motor

◆ Drain condensed water.

◆ Check tightness of mounting bolts and other bolted connections.

EVERY 3 MONTHS

◆ Check fans for vibration and unusual sound

◆ Inspect belt tightness. Adjust / replace belts as necessary.

◆ Check alignment of bearings

◆ Lubricate bearings. For Centrex Inline bearings lubricate every six months.

◆ Fans should be inspected for wear and dirt periodically

Motors Lubrication:

◆ Bearings are either pre-lubricated sealed for life or greaseable.

◆ Sealed for life bearings do not need lubrication for 7 years.

◆ Greaseable bearings are factory lubricated and do not need any attention for the first year.

◆ Remove grease relief fittings while greasing to allow excessive grease to flow out.

◆ Wherever possible, apply grease when motor is running without superseding any safety
considerations.

◆ Do not over-grease as most lubricants reduce motor winding life

air boosters in both supply and exhaust systems where the

installation of conventional blowers is impractical. Their compact
design gives designers an excellent alternative to conventional
blowers.

As an integral part of a ventilation system layout, Centrex Inliner

fans can be installed either horizontally, vertically or at any
angle determined by the duct work.Full-size removable panels
enable easy access to the fan interior. Direct-drive motors are
isolated from the airstream. Belt drive motors are mounted
on the outside housing and can be positioned at any angle to
avoid existing building obstructions. Optional motor covers are
available as belt guards.

Centrex Direct Drive Centrex Inliner fans feature durable galvanized steel construction
(aluminum is optional for selected belt drive models), which
works in conjunction with a patented wheel design and deeply
spun inlets to provide smoother flow through the ventilator. The
centrifugal wheels are aluminum, non-overloading, backwardly
inclined, robotically welded, and dynamically balanced.

Dynamo

INTRODUCTION
Utility Set
Dynamo centrifugal fans are SWSI, Class I, Arrangement 10
general purpose air moving devices. They are used for supply or
exhaust applications in commercial, institutional, and industrial
HVAC systems.

At the heart of the Dynamo is a computer designed, backward

inclined, centrifugal wheel. This heavy duty non-overloading
aluminum wheel (steel for heat & smoke removal) assures low
noise and high efficiency performance.

The fan wheel, venturi inlet, housing, and frame are engineered
to provide maximum performance and reliability.

Fan housings utilize heavy-gauge materials and employ welded

construction. Motors and all drive components have been
carefully engineered and tested for durability and performance.
A wide range of accessories are available to meet various
application requirements.

Dynamo centrifugal blowers are designed and built to provide the

end user with a highly efficient and extremely reliable air moving
unit. These units offer many features as standard equipment
that other manufacturers consider options. Each Dynamo is fully
assembled, factory set at the specified RPM, and test run prior
to shipment.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Self Aligning Pillow Block Bearings
Bearings are sized for a minimum L50 life exceeding 200,000
hours of operation. They require no maintenance other than
periodic lubrication. Standard Zerk lube fittings allow for ease
of lubrication. Extended lube lines are available as an option to
facilitate lubrication when a weather cover is used.

Solid Steel Shafts

Sized to withstand a minimum of 125% of maximum catalogued
operating speed, shafts are precision ground, polished, and
treated for rust resistance.

Durable Housings
Dynamo blowers are manufactured of heavy gauge zinc coated
galvanized steel to insure a long, corrosion resistant life.
Galvanized steel resists rust and will help maintain the unit’s
integrity even in environments such as coastal regions where
salt air will rapidly deteriorate black iron, even when it is painted. Typical Drive, Shaft, and Bearings Assembly

Arrangement 4 or 10 Single Width, Single Inlet

Fans are constructed with the motor and bearings (if apply) out of
the mainstream. For arrangement 10, motors are mounted inside

allow for the use of a weather cover and can be used in ducted
or non-ducted applications.
Dynamo fans are one component of a system. As such, fan performance is directly
effected by that system. It is critical that system designers determine the actual
system losses to ensure that the actual flow is as specified in the system design.

The amperages given here are approximate values only and represent averages compiled from the tables of leading motor
manufacturers. Overload relay heaters should not be selected on the basis of these tables only. Heaters must be selected in
accordance with the actual motor current as shown on the nameplate. It is also important that ambient temperatures of the area in
which the motor control is located be taken into consideration when making heater selections. Ambient compensated overload relays
are available for abnormal temperature conditions.

On most Belt Drive PennBarry roof exhausters, the motor synchronous speed is 1800 RPM.

Hinweise zu Auslegung und Einbau

Auslegung
Abbildungen).

Fan selection and installation

falsch / incorrect 3 richtig / correct
Fan selection
Please select fans according to the nearest performance curve above
the required duty point. The middle range of each fan curve is the area
of highest efficiency. Do not select fans at the upper end of the fan
curve, as this might cause the fan to work in stall. In order to avoid motor
overloading, please select motors according to the peak power of the
respective performance curve. Please refer to the selection example
on the following page.
1,5 x D
Fan installation
When installing the fan, please consider the following instructions:
> Fans with free inlet and outlet should be installed with an unobstructed
distance of at least 1,5 x fan diameter on suction and pressure sides.
Fans should have a bellmouth on the inlet side in order to assure
optimal incoming flow. A diffusor mounted on the pressure side will
increase efficiency. falsch / incorrect 4 richtig / correct
> When installing fans in a ducted system, adequate distance to other
structural parts such as bends, filters and silencers should be provided
for. A sharp bond radius of the duct near the suction or pressure side
of the fan is to be avoided. Flexible connections are to be installed in
a way that does not obstruct the outlet cross section of the fan (see
following page).
