Magno: Haitian prime minister in Kenya to try to salvage African country’s deployment of police
to Haiti, here is Mr. Bulabos to deliver this breaking news.

Arvhie: Thank you, Ms. Magno. Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry is in Kenya to finalize a plan
to deploy 1,000 Kenyan police officers to combat gang violence in Haiti. The Kenyan High Court
ruled the plan unconstitutional due to a lack of reciprocal agreements. Kenya associates itself
with Haiti due to its common heritage and offers its police expertise for the proposed
Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti. However, opposition leader Ekuru Aukot
challenges the deployment, arguing that Kenya lacks the legitimacy to sign the document on
behalf of the country. The Caribbean leaders have agreed to hold general elections by mid-
2025. Aukot opposes the deployment due to Kenya’s security challenges, such as the Somali-
based al-Qaida-linked extremist group al-Shabab, high crime rates, and human rights abuses by
Kenyan police. In Haiti, gangs have grown more powerful and political instability has increased
since President Moïse’s assassination.

Bulabos(G): Marcos vows boost to development of Basilan. Here’s Mr. Narvaez to deliver this
breaking news.

Narvaez: President Marcos arrived in Mahatallang village to launch the “Panabang si

Kasanyangan” (Support the Peace) program, marking the province’s 50th founding anniversary.
He was the fourth President to visit the formerly no-go island province, which was once tainted
by violence and terrorism. The first visit was made by his father in the 1970s to establish
Mahatallang, a farming resettlement for former Moro guerrillas. The first visit was to the
Sampinit Complex, a stronghold of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), which started the
50-year insurgency after the Jabidah Massacre in 1968.

Mr. Marcos pledged government help to make the province another food basket for the country
after security concerns that pushed it to underdevelopment had eased. However, there are still
many pending issues in the province, including the Abu Sayyaf group’s involvement in the
region since 1989.

Magno: Senator suggests donning robes to give Cha-cha gab ‘more dignity’. Is this still related
to the Senate “taking the lead” on discussions about Charter change (Cha-cha)? Here’s Mr
Narvaez to deliver this breaking news.

Narvaez: Senator Francis Tolentino has proposed that the Senate wear robes during its
meetings to highlight the importance of constitutional revision. Tolentino believes this would add
dignity to the amendatory process and highlight the process, as amending the Constitution is
not often done. The Senate has already relayed the proposal to Senate President Juan Miguel
Zubiri, who supports the idea. Tolentino also suggested that the Senate rent robes used by
students during graduation instead of spending public funds for the robes. However, Sen.
Aquilino Pimentel III disagreed, stating that they only wear robes to show the people they are
acting as judges during the impeachment trial. Tolentino also suggested that his colleagues
should create their own rules of procedure for Cha-cha discussions, which the Senate has yet to
develop. The House has started hearings on a parallel measure, Resolution of Both Houses No.
7, which wants both chambers of Congress to vote on the amendments as one body.

Bulabos(G): And for our entertainment news, Janella Salvador and Win Metawin’s movie to
premiere at Asian Film Awards.

The first Philippine cross-country film to have its world premiere as part of the Asian Film
Awards in Hong Kong is “Under Parallel Skies.” The movie features Janella Salvador and Thai
actor Win Metawin. Film director Sigrid Bernardo announced this via her Instagram page on
Wednesday, Feb. 28.
“Under Parallel Skies” takes place in Hong Kong and follows the story of a man struggling with a
painful past and a woman who has a significant role in the story of his life.

Rumors of Salvador and Metawin joining together in a project first sparked in June 2023. The
production company confirmed the project a month later. Salvador also shared the
announcement on her Instagram page, adding: “Hope you’re ready to meet Iris and Parin!”
