Target Your Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of this Learning Episode, I must be able to assist in the
preparation of the traditional face-to-face learning environment.

Clarify Your Task

Enhancing a Face-to-Face or In-Person Classroom Environment for
Learning
In a face-to-face classroom, students and the teacher are physically
present. They meet at a time set in the classroom. The teacher prepares
activities, provides instruction and evaluates students’ learning. Equipment
and instructional materials are made available in the classroom where
teaching and learning take place most of the time.
Some of the advantages of a face-to-face learning environment for
the students are:

 less distraction and more concentration than when studying at

home or elsewhere;
 greater understanding and real world examples from teachers and
classmates;
 greater chance of completing course work by doing it in the
classroom space;
 learn more easily and more comfortably in familiar, traditional
classroom situation;
 access more relevant information from teachers and classmates
interactions and
 greater opportunity to connect and socialize, network and solve
problems together with classmates and teacher.
Here are some characteristics of the face-to-face or in-person
learning environment.

➤ Learning space is physical. Both the teacher and learner see and
hear each other from the same contained safe place called the classroom.
Lessons are delivered with the teacher physically facilitating.
Reading assignments are are from textbooks and other resources
provided or referred.

➤ Class meetings occur regularly on a specific time or schedule.

Teacher leads the conversation, within a limited amount of time.

Assessment is done face-to-face and usually during the class
meeting.

Participate and Assist

Given the concepts and the infographic, how can you participate
and assist in a face-to-face learning environment?

Notice
Having been exposed to the traditional classrooms in your basic
education, it seems that everything is familiar. However, as teaching-
learning theories evolve over time there are changes that are taking place.
What changes have you noticed in the face-to-face classroom
spaces?

Analyze
What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning
environment now?

- I think the technological advancements, educational

research, and societal shifts have all played a role in the transition
of classrooms from traditional to modern setups. The quick
advancement of digital technology has transformed how information
and resources are accessed, leading to interactive and multimedia
tools becoming more widespread in education. Educational
research that focuses on student-centered learning and various
assessment techniques has led to a shift in teaching methods to
place importance on involvement and personalized requirements.
Moreover, shifts in society, such as the need for modern abilities
like critical thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy, have led schools
to embrace more dynamic and adaptable learning settings.
From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do.
How will you do it?
- I would choose applying/integrating the technology for
teaching and learning process due to its availability and
mandated to be imposed nowadays since we are surrounded
with these unstoppable technologies that creates also the
improvement to every aspect of life in this century. I can assure
that I can easily do this integration because I am part of 21st
century learner therefore it is easy for me to do the job through
the use of technological advancements.

Reflect
Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-
to-face classroom will enable the learners to achieve better learning
outcomes? Explain your answer.

- Obviously yes, because establishing an appropriate

learning atmosphere in a physical classroom can greatly improve
student performance. An effectively designed classroom setting
promotes active participation, cooperation, and a sense of ease, all
of which are essential for successful learning. When students are
comfortable physically, stimulated mentally, and supported socially,
they are more likely to engage actively and remember information.
Characteristics like adaptable seating options, plenty of sunlight,
proper incorporation of technology, and support for a variety of
learning requirements can enhance a favorable environment. In
addition, a supportive setting promotes improved communication
between educators and pupils, facilitating prompt responses and
individualized assistance.

OBSERVE
What common problem have I noticed in a face-to-face learning
environment? Can I translate this problem into a question?

- Face-to-face learning environments face challenges in

accommodating diverse learning styles and needs. Traditional
teaching methods often follow a one-size-fits-all approach,
which can disadvantage students who don't thrive. Variations in
students' learning paces, different teaching techniques, and
physical setups can hinder effective learning. Additionally,
behavioral and emotional issues arise due to students' diverse
backgrounds and experiences.

REFLECT
How would I solve the problem?
Will it improve my teaching? How?
To address the issue of diverse learning needs in a face-to-face
classroom, I would use differentiated instruction, variable classroom
layouts, formative assessments, and educational technology.
Differentiated instruction adjusts teaching approaches to meet different
learning styles and paces, whilst flexible layouts promote collaboration and
involvement. Formative evaluations allow me to assess student
comprehension and change lessons accordingly, while technology enables
tailored learning experiences.
These tactics will help me enhance my teaching by increasing
student engagement, assuring greater subject comprehension, fostering
diversity, and utilizing new educational tools to create a more dynamic and
efficient learning environment.

PLAN
What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do
it.

- To solve the problem of diverse learning needs in a face-to-

face classroom, I will:
First, I’ll Implement Differentiated Instruction: I will vary my
teaching methods to include lectures, visual aids, hands-on
activities, and group work to cater to different learning styles.
2.Integrate Technology: I will incorporate educational apps,
online resources, and digital tools into my lessons. These
technologies can offer interactive and personalized learning
experiences, making it easier to address the diverse needs of
my students.
3. Use Formative Assessments**: I will regularly use quizzes, in-
class activities, and informal assessments to monitor student
progress.
4. Redesign Classroom Layouts: I will arrange desks in flexible
groupings rather than fixed rows, enabling collaborative
activities and discussions.
5. Engage in Professional Development: This will help me stay
updated with the latest teaching strategies and tools, enhancing
my ability to meet the varied needs of my students effectively.

Work on my Artifacts
Visit a school, where the learning environment is face-to-face.
Prepare a detailed report describing the face-to-face learning
environment in terms of the three components:

Physical Environment
 Is the space inside the room more than enough for learners
to move about?
 Does the room arrangement match with teaching-learning
principles? Are there several room arrangements in the
school?
 Are the visual displays attractive and do they stimulate
learning?
 Are the school premises safe and is the classroom space
free from hazards?
 Are learners comfortable in terms of light and ventilation?

Psychological Environment

 Are there sets of rules and procedures followed? What are

these?
 Are there sets of expectations that can motivate the learners
to learn?
 Are these observable in the classroom?
- Classroom atmosphere based on trust, cooperation
and empathy
- Modeling of positive attitude, respectful behavior,
constructive actions
- Avoidance of ridicule, sarcasm, superiority in the
classroom
- Opportunities for learners to share their experiences
and learning with each other
Social Environment

 Are there opportunities for positive interaction inside the

classroom?
 Are there outdoor activities that foster friendship,
camaraderie and cooperation?
 How are individual needs and differences considered?

PORTFOLIO ENTRY
Title: The Face-to-Face Learning Environment
Describe the physical environment:
The classroom’s space is good enough for all the learner to
physically engage in learning activities. The seating arrangement also is
purposely planned by the adviser to separate students that could possibly
cause distractions to others. On the other hand, there are no existence of
any wall display and decorative at any corner of the classroom.
Additionally, the lighting, the atmosphere is fair enough to all occupance
and it is safe enough since there are no any hazardous places, chemicals
and etc. In general, the classroom that we had observe is secured enough
and it promotes good quality of education when we talk about only the
classroom itself.

Describe the psychological environment:

With regards to the rules and procedures about the classroom I
haven’t found any at the sections we observe but base on our CT it has
been already inculcate starting at their first day of class, as well as
expectations for the students to accomplish. However, we really did seen
about the teachers’ showmanship about the good behavioral practices
aside from reminding it to the students every time they made unethical to
someone.

Describe the social environment:

Well, it is clearly observed by us ever since day 1 of observation
because students are free to socialize with each other and free to do some
kind of fun at the gymnasium and plaza such as playing volleyball,
instruments, and practicing of dances that we often witness during vacant
time. Those different activities do not only provide students additional skills
but to give value to others and eliminates the feeling of being indifferent,
depression and loneliness to every individual.
