ISO 15614
FOR AMMONIA TANK PROJECTS- LINDE
EN 14620 shall be applied.

1.1.1 Welding Consumables

Selection of suitable welding filler materials by C.C. shall be based on the recommendations
according to filler-material manufacturer and LINDE . Handling and storing of filler materials
shall be according to filler-material manufacturer's recommendation.
Inspection documents 3.1 according to EN 10204 or material test reports shall be provided
for welding filler materials.
Welding consumable selection criterions in terms of design aspects:
 For 121, EM(x) wires shall be used.
 For 111 low hydrogen or basic base covering electrodes shall be used. Maximum
electrode diameter shall not exceed 4mm.
 Limiting max yield strength and reducing max. tensile strength, and limit CEV hence
aiming electrodes not producing max. strength in their specification.
Recommended Filler Materials (PC and PA positions with 121 process, PF1 position with
111):
 111: EN ISO 2560-A: E35 4 B 42 H5, BOHLER FOX EV 40, Modified AWS A5.5 / SFA-
5.5 E6018
 111: E7018-C3L SFA-5.5, E7018-C3L ESAB Atom Arc
 121: SFA-5.17, F7A4-EM12 Böhler UV 420 TT
 121: SFA 5.23, F7XX-EM12K Lincoln L-61 Wire - 882 Flux
C.C’s filler material selection is subject to final approval of LINDE.

1.1.2 Welding Coordinator(s)

The tasks and responsibilities of a welding coordinator are described in ISO 14731.
The welding coordinator(s) shall have sufficient knowledge and experience in the field of
welding. They shall be capable of giving the welders clear and unambiguous working
instructions, have the authority to do so, and take the necessary measures to achieve and
maintain the required quality of welding.
Welding coordinator(s) shall be nominated by C.C in writing and shall be shown in the
organization chart.
SITE REPRESENTATIVE reserves the right to check the observance of the requirements.

1.1.3 VT and NDT

NDT shall comply with the Regulations.
All welded joints shall be 100% visually examined (VT) by C.C's nominated personnel.
Quality level B according to EN ISO 5817 applies to all product wetted welds of the inner
tank. In addition, undercuts are not permitted. Quality level C according to EN ISO 5817
applies to all other welds.
Unless stated otherwise, MT shall be used in lieu of PT. Phased array UT (PAUT) shall be
used in lieu of RT. Acceptance criteria for ultrasonic examination (PAUT) shall be assumed
as API 620 Table U-1 as per EN 14620-2.
In addition, all butt welds in tank piping penetrating the inner tank shell shall be 100% RT
(with the exception of butt weld in tank piping inside the inner tank).

1
Combination of BOHLER FOX EV 40 (cap layer) and ESAB Atom Arc (root & filling layers) is suggested by
LINDE. (for a weld bead placement sequence See Para. 5.5.1)
In case of doubt by SITE REPRESENTATIVE additional NDT of welds by radiographic
testing (RT) dye penetrant testing (PT), or ultrasonic testing (UT) shall be performed by C.C.
Hardness testing shall be performed on the product side of all weld seams of the inner tank
as well as the inside of the outer tank irrespective of the welding processes used. Hardness
shall not exceed 200 HB.
