EDUCATION CITY STADIUM (ECS)

Responsibilities (Employed by J&P AVAX) :
• BIM Management & Implementation
• Shop Drawings
• As-Built - AIM

Client: Supreme Comittee Es. Project Value: 650 000 000 $

Project Description:
Education City Stadium is a FIFA football
stadium of 45.350 seats and GFA of 196,227
sqm, built for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

The building is located in a prestigious

education area of Doha (Education City),
in Al Rayyan area among many University
Campuses of Education City with the pur-
pose to be used for their athletic programs
after the 2022 World Cup. This strategy led
to a unique design of a steel demountable
upper tier that will be removed and allow
the transformation of the upper levels of
the Stadium bowl in order to accommo-
date administration offices and open sports
deck with associated auxiliary rooms for
the athletic activities of the universities. This
phase that called legacy stage will be initi-
ated after the Word cup of 2022.

The detail and construction design were

commissioned to Pattern Architects and
Burro Happold who maintain the initial TD
of Fenwick Iribarren architects by develop-
ing effective value engineering strategies
through an optimization of the building en-
velope and interior design.

Overall, the inner structure of the stadium

was constructed by reinforced concrete
apart from the bowl that is made of pre-cast
concrete and the demountable tier that was
built independently by a removable steel
structure. A steel external envelope wraps
around the building mass from the exter-
nal podium to the dripline edge above the
field of play. Whilst independent cladding
systems, the roof and façade consisted of
triangulated panels by metal fabric and alu-
minium sheets, were connected seamlessly
to create a singular cohesive form realising
the Diamond aesthetic of the initial design.

The design of all disciplines was developed

through BIM that led to an effective coordi-
nation and fast production of construction
documentation that boosted the speed of
the construction.

HANGZHOU INTERNATIONAL OFFICE CENTER (HIOC)

Responsibilities (Employed by LAVA BERLIN) :
• Architectural & Planing Design
• Interior Design
• BIM Implementation Consept and Schematic Stage

Client: Undisclosed Es. Project Value: 700 000 000 $

Project Description:

The HIOC project was a private competition

of an international office center in Hangzhou
of China. The project required an urban
design proposal of an 380.500 sqm office
center with a mixed program of office, hotel
and retail. The architectural design of our
proposal can be divided schematically in
two parts, the horizontal plinth that includes
a mall and a hotel on the top (100.000 sqm)
and the vertical development of two towers
with mixed program of high standard of-
fices and hotel facilities (280.500 sqm).

The building project with the iconic tower

is a design proposal in a city with a rapid
development, increasing population and
demands. LAVA Berlin proposed an in-
terweaving design approach for a mixed
program of office, hotel, plaza and retail.
The result brings together both vertical and
horizontal elements to the site. This can be
seen as a new symbolic icon representing a
rich history of the China.

The horizontal development is a constant

dialogue between interior public spaces
that offer entertainment and retail facilities
in a mall, with the outdoor public spaces of
two interconnected plazas that invites the
people in the unique urban realm of the site.
The program mixed requirements of the
two towers for more private spaces (hotel)
and more public spaces (offices) lead us to
an innovative vertical transportation strate-
gy that allow us to design special features of
Tower 1. The Panoramic elevators create a
unique experience for the hotel visitors and
the spaces like the Sky Lobby between of-
fices and Hotel, and the Sky Garden on the
top of the building offers green design for
the building and the users.

behind the hotel lifts, which will be quiet most of the time,
with very low levels of activity. The plan focuses activity to- STANDARD

was developed inside the perimeter of the
Education City Stadium (ECS) plot dur-
ing the construction phase of the latter. In
the same master plan of the Education
City Stadium (ECS), Qatar Foundation de-
cided to include two education facilities of
18.900sqm that will accommodate a STEM
(QAST) and Progressive (ACADEMYATI)
school. The main contractor of the project
was JPAC (Joint Venture of J&P Qatar and
Conspel). The designers of the first stages
(Consept and Schematic) were the Whight
and Co firm, who won the architectural
competition that was organized from JPAC
on behalf of Qatar Foundation and Su-
preme Committee on January 2018. After
Schematic design stages JPAC commis-
sioned the design to SALFO Qatar.

The main principle of the schools’ architec-

tural design was a complete integration of
the building volumes in an already devel-
oped master plan, matching the architec-
tural language of the ECS that was already
under construction. Also, the spatial con-
figuration of the schools had to be suitable
to accommodate a demanding progressive
educational curriculum that is based to flex-
ibility and multifunctional workshops.

The integration was achieved mainly by a

clever formation of two main school build-
ings at the South and North side of the plot
by following the curves of the main pedes-
trian walkway that leads to the Stadium.
The layouts of the schools were developed
by the connection of the separate volumes
dedicated to the different school grades
and their distinct functions. The independ-
ent volumes were connected with double
height atriums and gathering alleys/ spac-
es. Externally at each school, the unifying el-
ement that brings all the separate volumes
together, is a steel Canopy perforated with
a mashrabiya pattern.

The buildings are reinforced concrete struc-

tures with blockworks. Their external enve-
lope has been formed on the facade with
stony cavity walls that alternate with curtain
walls and on the top by a steel structure of
Mashrabiya Canopy.

tel in Ornos Mykonos. The hotel feature a
collection of 41 artful rooms and 9 suites
with direct access to the beach, present
en-suite spa areas, an exclusive hot tubing
experience in jacuzzi baths, body spraying
relaxation areas under blue waterfall mod-
ern dome-like roman showers, own private
luxury loungers freshened by the airy fresh
breeze of the Aegean sea.

The main design philosophy of the accom-

modation is based on the open air concept
for the majority of the rooms, which allows
visitors to enjoy a magnificent view to the
sea from the comfort of their guest rooms
and suites. The traditional stone, the golden
sand and the elegant wood work together
composing a sense of fresh and warm
surroundings, ideal for a relaxing sun filled
vacation, a breath away from the Myconian

DESIGN PROJECT

ANDRONIKOS HOTEL
Responsibilities (Employed by KLAB):
• Architectrural Consept and Construction Design
• 3d Modeling & Visualization

Client: Andronikos Hotels

Project Status: Finished
Project Description:

A modern rendering of Cyclades’ vernacu-

lar architecture was used when redesigning
this old hotel in Mykonos and transforming
its exterior space into a sculpted interpre-
tation of nearby town. The winding ramps
and stairs leading up to the free- form
swimming pool create a theatrical stage;
a public area that can be thought of as an
extension of the hotel rooms. The spaces
are designed in accordance with the princi-
ples of fluidity and surprise. Conceived as a
modern cave, the room provides privacy in
a surprising way.

Each “cocoon” room is a modern interpre-

tation of Cycladic design, characterized
by fluid forms and natural curves so often
found in Mykonos landscape. Natural ele-
ments used throughout the white space
such as pebbles, bamboo and wood create
a harmonious and relaxed environment that
ease the mind and spirit while replenishing
all the lost energy from the stressful city life.
In the room, floor, walls and furniture, lay on
a continuous surface, thus making them a
fluid sculpture while cool lighting scenarios
contribute to this desired feeling of relaxa-
tion.
DESIGN PROJECT

RENOVATION OF THEATER SQUERE

Responsibilities :
• Design Managment
• Architectrural Consept
• 3d Modeling & Visualization

Client: Architectural Competition

Project Description:

The goal of this competition was the find-

ing of a proposal for the building facades
which embraces the Theatre square in the
centre of Athens, a crowded plaza, and the
reconstruction of the main public spaces of
this square. In our proposal we try to create
a pattern of wooden boards which aim to
protect the apartments from the sun and
also provide an appropriate space for plant
growth on the facades.
The challenge in this concept was the frag-
mented public space of this plaza which
was divided by the surrounding roads. Spe-
cifically, the theatre square is an old type of
classical plaza with a public building in the
middle, so the spaces for people accumula-
tion are the roads around this central build-
ing. Therefore, we tried to create an overall
character for the main roads of the public
space. The benches, the engraved lines on
the pedestrian walkways and the trees di-
rect the people in the gathering spaces on
the square. All the road equipment is har-
monized with the commercial activity in the
road and has coherence with the design of
the facades.
DESIGN PROJECT

TOWER HOUSE COMPLEX

Responsibilities (Employed by KLAB) :
• Architectrural Consept and Construction Design
• 3d Modeling & Visualization

Client: Undisclosed Project Status: Finished

Project Description:

Located in a southern suburb of Athens

near the sea, this project is split into 3 plots.
In two of the plots, 9 buildings are devel-
oped by sharing the same architectural lan-
guage. Three tower houses, three double
unit buildings, and three single unit build-
ings. The complexity of the requirements is
also inherited to their aesthetic composition
getting as a result a vibrant and attractive
unified whole.

Comfort, simplicity and elegance can de-

scribe the desirable atmosphere for each
of the units that, while they synthesize a uni-
fied complex, each has its own distinctive
and unique characteristic that separates it
from the others.
DESIGN PROJECT

APARTMENT BUILDING IN ALIMOS

Responsibilities :
• Design Managment
• Architectrural Consept and Construction Design
• 3d Modeling & Visualization

Client: Kafiris Co. O.E. Project Status: Finished

Project Description:

Located in a southern suburb of Athens,

this building plot in Alimos has a view in the
sea. The apartment building was designed
in order to correspond with two distinctive
purposes. The building should fit in the ur-
ban environment combined by housing
complexes and other private houses by
suggesting a new architectural approach
of the typical paradigm of the apartments
building in Athens.

The main aim of the design is to have the

front volume of the building look to the sea
in the north east direction, to provide to all
of the apartments a view to the sea. The
back volume has a more static role making
the appropriate “counterpoint” to the front
volume of the building which is more open.

• Architectrural Consept and Construction drawings
• 3d Visualization

Client: Sokolis Nicos Project Status: Finished

Project Description:

In the North suburbs of Athens, this house

with a hybrid form follows the plot’s natu-
ral inclination and takes advantage of the
area’s natural sources like the sun light and
the winds. All the living spaces of the house
are developed in different split levels which
are approached through two ramps.
Only the private bedrooms of the family are
in the highest level, which is connected with
the living space by a linear stair in the same
zone with the ramps. The building grew
out of a reform of the plot’s ground. It was
attempted to create a sculpture which will
be embodied in the natural environment
smoothly.

TWO ADJOINED HOUSES WITH ATRIUM

Responsibilities :
• Design Managment
• Architectrural Consept and Construction drawings
• 3d Modeling & Visualization

Client: Aggeletopoulou Xanthi Project Status: Finished

Project Description:

This building consists of two discrete hous-

es which are divided by a stone wall. The
concept was the composition of two hous-
es that have different size, in one volume as
an entity, with an atrium inside. The small
west house, is developed in two levels to
accommodate a three-member family, has
its own entrance and separate yard.
The other large house in the east side of the
building is developed also in two levels to
accommodate a four-member family. This
part of the volume embraces an atrium with
a garden. All the vital spaces of the house
have a view in the atrium and the basic living
spaces are connected directly with it. The
layout of the spaces provides the appropri-
ate privacy both between the two houses
and between the houses and the road.
