Answer to this paper must be written on the paper provided separately.
You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes.
This time is to be spent in reading the question paper.
The time given at the top of this paper is the time allowed for writing the answers.
Attempts all questions from Section A and any four questions from Section B.
All working, including rough work, must be clearly shown, and must be done on the same sheet as the rest of
the answer.
Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.

Question 4.
(a) The sum of the first three terms of a geometric progression is and their product is - 1. Find the 3
terms.

(b) A man invests ₹ 6750, partly in shares of 6% at ₹ 140 and partly in shares of 5% at ₹ 125. If his total
income is ₹ 280, how much has he invested in each? [3]
(c) The distance by road between two towns A and B, is 216 km, and by rail it is 208 km. A car travels at a
speed of x km/h, and the train travels at a speed which is 16 km/h faster than the car. Calculate:
(i) The time taken by the car, to reach town B from A, in terms of x.
(ii) The time taken by the train, to reach town B from A, in terms of x.
(iii) If the train takes 2 hours less than the car, to reach town B, obtain an equation in x, and solve it.
(iv) Hence, find the speed of train. [4]
Question 5.
(a) ABC is a triangle with AB = 10 cm, BC = 8 cm and AC = 6 cm (not drawn to scale). Three circles are
drawn touching each other with the vertices as their centres. Find the radii of the three circles.

(b) A vessel is in the form of an inverted cone. Its height is 8 cm and the radius of its top which is open is 5
cm. It is filled with water up to the rim. When lead shots, each of which is a sphere of 0.5 cm radius, are
dropped into the vessel, one fourth of the water flows out. Find the number of lead shots dropped into
the vessel. (Take 4 $ ) [3]

(c) A 1.4 m tall girl spots a balloon moving with the wind in a horizontal line at a height of 91.4 m long from
the ground. The angle of elevation of the balloon from the eyes of the girl at the instant is 600. After
some time, the angle of elevation reduces to 300. Find the distance travelled by the balloon during that
interval. Take √3 = 1.732 [4]
Question 6.
(a) Points A and B have coordinates (7, -3) and (1, 9) respectively. Find (i) the slope of AB, (ii) the equation of
the perpendicular bisector of the line segment AB, and (iii) the value of ‘P’ if (-2, P) lies on it. [4]
(b) Solve for x: 1 + 4 + 7 + 10 + . . . + x = 287 [3]
(c) Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only,
(i) Construct a ∆ABC with BC = 6 cm, ∠ABC = 1200 and AB = 3.5 cm.
(ii) In this figure, draw a circle with BC as diameter.
Find a point P on the circumference of the circle which is equidistant from AB and Bc. Measure
∠BCP. [3]
Question 7.
(a) A shopkeeper buys an article from a manufacturer for ₹ 12000 and marks up it price by 25%. The
shopkeeper gives a discount of 10% on the marked-up price and he gives a further oM-season discount
of 5% on the balance to a customer of T.V. If the sales are intra-state and the rate of GST is 12%, find:
(i) The price inclusive of tax (under GST) which the consumer pays for the T.V.
(ii) The amount of tax (under GST) paid by the shopkeeper to the State Government.
(iii) The amount of tax (under GST) received by the Central Government. [4]

(b) Solve the quadratic equation x – 3(x + 3) = 0; give your answer correct to two significant figures. [3]
(c) From a pack of 52 cards, a black jack, a red queen and two black kings fell down. A caed was then
drawn from the remaining pack at random. Find the probability that the card drawn is
(i) A black card (ii) a king (iii) a red queen [3]

(a) Construct a regular hexagon of 5 cm side. Construct a circle circumscribing the hexagon. [5]
