Abstract
A veterinary technician is similar to a nurse, but for animals or non-human patients. Veterinary
techs treat pets that are sick or need a basic check-up, examine animals to assess their health, and
diagnose health problems. They have to advise the animals owners about the general care and
medical conditions, along with the treatments. They would have to attend college for 4 years to
get their bachelor's degree. Not only do they need to have a bachelor's degree but they also need
to have skills such as decision-making, and compassion, and must be comfortable with blood and
needles. Along with needing to know what different medicines will help the patients, if someone
enjoys working with others, becoming a vet tech is the right job for them. The amount of
communication skills that someone has makes a big difference in how well they do their job.
Veterinary technicians make $36,500 per year, and they have to be willing to work long hours,
and they should also know how to handle stress, work at a fast pace, and give bad news.
