CHEMO MECHANICAL METHODS OF CARIES REMOVAL

According to Banerjee et al. 2000, the chemo mechanical method is an effective alternative for caries removal, because it brings
M
together atraumatic characteristics and bactericide/bacteriostatic action. An active ingredient would soften the predegraded collagen
of the lesion without pain or undesirable effects to adjacent healthy tissues.

CARIDEX

COMPOSITION ADVANTAGES

Developed by C.M. Habib • No need of use of local anesthesia

Solution I – 1% NaOCl • Conservation of sound tooth structure
• Reduces risk of pulpal thermal insult
Solution II – Sorenson's Buffer 0.1m Amino butyric acid
• Reduces risk of pulpal exposure
Glycine + 0.1m NaOH + 0.1m NaCl
• Reduces patient’s anxiety
CARIDEX APPLICATION ON CARIOUS
MECHANISM OF ACTION LESION FOR 15 MINUTES • Proven efficacy

Formation of N- monochloro - D,L - amino butyric acid DISADVANTAGES

NMAB (GK 101E) (at pH =11)
↓ • Expensive
Chlorination of partially degraded collagen • Prolongs clinical time
Cleavage by oxidation of glycine residues • Requires large volumes of solution
↓ • Bulky Caridex delivery system
Makes disrupted collagen more friable COLLAGEN DEGRADATION BY CARIDEX
• Specialized heating device required

CARISOLV PAPAIN GEL

COMPOSITION COMPOSITION

Syringe I: Sodium hypochlorite (0.95%) Papain (30000 U/mg) 100mg, clove oil
Syringe II: Amino acids (glutamic acid, leucine, lysine) 2.5g/dL 2mg , chloramines, 1% w/w toluidine
Carboxymethyl cellulose (gelation agent) blue dye, phosphate salts of sodium
Erythrocin (Red coloring indicator) and potassium and thickening vehicle
Sodium chloride/sodium hydroxide (vehicle) PAPACARIE DUO CONTAINING CHLORAMINE
BIOENCAPSULATED PAPAIN GEL

MECHANISM OF ACTION
MECHANISM OF ACTION

Amino acids bind to chlorine to form chloramine. It destroys the Papacarie when applied to contaminated dentin surface, has
bonds that hold the fibrous carious structure together and breaks proteolytic, chlorinating and oxidative effect on affected collagen.
down pre-degraded collagen leaving healthy dentin unaffected.
