boards are very common nowadays. The same yellow or red coloured board is not
attractive .The introduction of multicoloured LEDs into the display boards make
them attractive. This project is oriented towards the development of a prototype of
a multicoloured LED display board which is being controlled by an LED driver.
The use of multicolour LED opens door to many applications. The display board
is made on readily available components. The important requirement is that the
display board should have long life expectancy, high tolerance to humidity, low
power consumption and minimal heat generation. The fundamental part is a 4X4
LED module which could be repeated column wise or row wise to enlarge the
display without any change in circuitry. Both single line and double line display
could be affected. Motivation towards the project was tomake available a readily
expandable multicolour display board which can be used for multiple purposes.
5. SPECIFICATIONS
A P10 LED Display Module is the most suitable for designing any size of outdoor
or indoor LED display advertisement board. This panel has a total of 512 high
brightness LEDs mounted on a plastic housing designed for best display results.
Any number of such panels can be combined in any row and column structures to
design an attractive LED signboard. The 32*16 module size means that there are
32 LEDs in each row and 16 LEDs in each column. So there is a total of 512
numbers of LEDs present in each module unit.

5 Pin (16 Wire) Female to Female Connector Flat Ribbon Cable (FRC) Cable
consists of 16 conducting wires stuck together in parallel. Flat Ribbon Cable/FRC
is also known as multi-wire planar cable because they are the type of cables
formed by joining insulated wires in a flat plane forming the Ribbon shape. In
other words, Ribbon cable has many conducting wires running parallel to each
other on the same flat plane. These wires are commonly used for internal
peripherals in computers, such as hard drives, CD drives, wired robots, etc. This
ribbon cable allowed major companies to replace bulky, stiff round cables with
sleek, flexible ribbon cables.FRC is an ideal way to connect two devices digitally.
The resultant impedance for any two adjacent wires within the cable is 120 Ohms.
FRC also fold and bend readily, conforming to the mounting area, and they fasten
easily with clamps, adhesive, or double-faced tape. Sincethe conductors are
visible and in a fixed position within the dielectric coding, inspection and circuit
tracingare simplified.

7. SSD POSSIBILITIES
8. OPERATION PRINCIPLE
Led works on the principle of electroluminescence.
Electroluminescence (EL) is an optical phenomenon and electrical
phenomenon in which a materialsemits light in response to the passage of an
electric current through it or to a strong electric field
Electroluminescence is the result of radiative recombination
[2:39 pm, 23/05/2023] Rameshwar Mahajan: LED scrolling message display
matrix can be made to work, by connecting all the anodes to a microcontroller
and the columns are connected to shift register (74LS164). Every column
contains ‗N‘ LED‘s so that the total current flowing through the column is the
sum of current flowing through each LED. The current flowing through each
LED is 20mA and thetotal current is N*20mA .The shift register is not
capable to sink such a large current n*2mA, Here we need a large current
sinker (IC ULN 2803) which is capable to sink 500mA current.
[2:39 pm, 23/05/2023] Rameshwar Mahajan: Microcontroller provides the
data and clock control signals to the shift register. Microcontroller provides
the data sequence to shift register data pin, the first column in LED matrix is
connected to ground via ULN 2803 and the remaining other columns in the
matrix are left unconnected. Hence LEDs in that column will glow according
to port data providedby the micro controller.
9. Working of LED
Under forward bias majority carriers from both sides of the junction can cross
the depletion region andentering the material at the other side
These diffused carriers recombine with the majority carriers at the other
side The recombination causes light to be emitted
Such process is termed radiative recombination
11. ADVANTAGES
LED scrolling message boards don't use a lot of electricity. That's because LEDs are
efficient by nature—they
