MY EXPERIENCE IN ATAL IDEA

LAB
On 26th November 2022, our mechnaical department planned a visit
to this amazing lab called ATAL IDEA LAB located at VTU
mudenahalli ,for my classroom i.e. mechanical 5th semester. Hearing
that this lab has 3D printing, Laser Cutting, 3D scanning, IOT, CNC
wood cutter, I was so excited and wanted to visit this lab so soon. As
the day came, I woke up early and got ready to reach my pickup
point of college bus by 7.30 am. Then the bus came, I was in the bus
and I awaited patiently for the bus to reach the lab.

As we reached the lab, the first thing I noticed is greenery and how
peaceful the area is, the campus was so clean as new. We got down
from the bus and entered inside the campus. We have given all
details such as name, number, semester, email id. After entering the
campus, I noticed the staff members of Atal Idea lab are using walkie
talkies. The way they welcomed us was formal. We reached the
seminar hall and wondered what will be next.

Then the co Ordinator of Atal Idea lab Dr.Ashwin has entered. One of
the staff members started introducing guests and members of the
lab. They welcomed our chief guest Dr. Purshotham sir along with
Dr.Ashwin sir , Miss Rani madam and also our respectful faculty Dr.
Mohammed Saleem sir and Mr.Channaveeriah sir onto the dais. It
was a great honor to know them. Their words were inspiring and
motivating. I have learned one thing from their speeches which is
“The Future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine
them in creative ways”. And there was a question running in my
mind which I wanted to ask but I haven’t got chance, the question
was “what is the role of hard work in future?”
So after the programme finished we were divided into three groups
and led to labs. Where I have seen a laser cutting machine operating
and cutting the required work piece within minutes and the material
is glass and dimensions were highly accurate. Then we moved to a
system where they used LaserCAD software for designing and
uploading the workpiece to laser cutting machine. Next we have
moved onto 3D printing, where they print the three dimensional
workpiece layer by layer to exact dimensions. They use PolyLactic
Acid [PLA] for printing.

Then we moved onto 3D scanning where they scan the dimensions of

the object using 3D scanner. The object is placed on the circular disc
which rotates 360 degrees making it easy for the scanner to scan the
dimension accurately. Next we moved to CNC wood router where
they explained how the router works by computer and the way they
control it, is incredible. Then we moved onto IOT there are many
smart sensors and AI used in Internet of things, they are very helpful
in conserving energy and time.

Now, after the intro of all equipment’s in lab, I got some free time to
sit and know more about them through google. There I learned that
each machine equipment i.e. 3D scanner, 3D printer, CNC Wood
router, Laser cutting are found around decades ago. The founders
have developed it for around five decades with hardwork and skills
to make them available and applicable in 21st century. It is here
exactly, I learned that hard work is also the key to achieve dreams
which answered my above question.
Finally, after finishing the delightful lunch arranged by VTU
mudenahalli. We were ready to explore the speciality of
mudenahalli.
Mudenahalli is the birthplace of Swami Vishweshwaraiah.
We visited his memorial ground, and we took a picture along with
our staff. People would visit his memorial ground as a holy place.
We came to know that he lived for 102 years from 1860 to 1962.

Swami Vishweshwariah Memorial ground

We then visited the museum which is technically Swami
Vishweshwariah’s house. They haven’t allowed us to take any photos
but I took a photo of his room shown below.
