HW4-Qrtr2-14Nov-2021-Equations of Lines.

Name: _____________________________________ Class: ___________

1. Find the slope of the line passing through A(-4, 5) and (3, -2).

(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(-2-5)/(3-(-4))
-7/7 is the slope

−3
2. Find the equation of a line with slope and passing through (-7, -8). Write the
5
equation of the line in the standard form.

Y-y1=m(x-x1)
Y-(-8)=(-3/5)*(x-(-7))
Times five on both sides
5y-(-8)=-3(x-(-7))
5y-(-8)=3x-(-21)
Transfer x to left side and switch its sign
5y-(-8)-3x=21
Subtract 8 from both sides
5y-3x=12
Add 12 on both sides
5y-3x+12=0 standard form

3. A line passes through the points (0, 6) and (-4, 0). Find the equation of the line
in the standard form and slope intercept form.

(Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1)
(0-6)/(-4-0)
-6/-4
If both of them are negative that also means both of them being positive makes
the result the same
6/4 is the slope
(0,6) is the y intercept
Y=(6/4)x+6 slope intercept form
Get rid of the fraction by multiplying both sides by 4
4y=6x+6
Get the right side to the left side of the equation
4y-6x-6=0 standard form

4. Draw a line segment of length 8.5cm. Construct its perpendicular bisector.
