Introduction

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sujani, Deoghar was established in the year 1985 which is situated 15 kms away from Deoghar district town and 7

kms away from Jasidih Railway Station – Koridih Road.

It is an agricultural extension center that aims to provide knowledge and support to farmers in the region. The KVK in Deoghar

is headed by Dr. Piyush Kanti Sannigrahi. It is noted that two scientists are associated with the KVK Deoghar, namely Dr. Vivek

Kashyap (SMS, Plant Protection) and Mr. Shaon Chakraborty (SMS Agrometeorology)
Concept
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a grass – root level institution designed and devoted to impart need based skill – oriented short and long –term
vocational training courses to the farmers/farm women. The concepts of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, area as follows :
● The Kendra will impart learning through work experience and hence will be concerned with technical literacy, the acquisition of which does not

necessarily require as a precondition, the ability to write.

● The Kendra will impart training to those extension workers who are already employed or to practicing farmers.

● There will be no uniform syllabus for a Kendra. The syllabus and programme of each Kendra will be tailored according to the felt needs, natural

resources and potential for agricultural growth in the particular area

Mandate
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra has been established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research with the aim of reducing the time lag between the
generation of technologies and their transfer to the farmers for increasing the productivity in agriculture and allied sectors. In order to achieve
this aim Krishi Vigyan Kendra has following mandates :-
● On – farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming system.

● Frontline demonstrations to establish its production potentials on the farmers’ fields.

● Training of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies.

● Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for

improving the agricultural economy of the district.


Activities of KVK

● On-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.

● Frontline demonstrations to establish its production potentials on the farmers’ fields.

● Training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies, and training of extension personnel to

orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.

● To work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for

improving the agricultural economy of the district.

● Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers In addition, KVKs produce quality

technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension

activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of

KVK.

Infrastructure facilities

Administrative building – The Krishi Vigyan Kendra has a spacious building KVK has a well-equipped training hall.

Soil testing laboratory - The soil testing laboratory at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, deoghar established for the benefit of the farming
community to analyze soil available nitrogen, phosphorus potassium calcium, and magnesium content.

Automatic Weather Station – An automatic weather station has been established at Krishi Vigyan Kendra to record temperature,
relative humidity, rainfall, wind speed, sunshine hours, etc.

Instructional Farm - The Krishi Vigyan Kendra possess 15.0 ha of land utilized for the cultivation of agriculture crops fodder crops,
and seed, fruit plant relevant to the area The main purpose of the farm is to demonstrate the latest agriculture practice.

Revolving Fund – The revolving fund of Krishi Vigyan Kendra has utilized cereal seed, fodder seed, vermicompost production, and
value-added food products for sale.

Front Line Demonstration – FLD program is conducted for new varieties of oilseed, pulses, paddy, maize, vegetable, and new
breeds of poultry goat and other latest production technology for popularization .
Work done during Unit attachment

❖ 1st Week:
● Agronomy Scientists conducted training about weed and weed management.
● This includes both theoretical and practical sessions.
● Students practically performed hand weeding in rice fields.
● During the hand-weeding process, we came to know about different types of weeds.
● spraying of weedicide operations took place and different cultural practices of weeding.
❖ 2 nd Week:
● during 2nd week individual presentations carried on where each student was given different topic , my topic was
importance of information communication technologies (icts) in agriculture .
● I presented my topic in front of scientist and fellow students , and viva and question and answer activities took placed
on topic where i secured 15 out of 20 marks .
● we also attended the icar meeting kishi samwad which was from progressive farmers to agripreneurs.
❖ 3rd Week:
● village survey conducted for our batch where we visited a progressive farmer and gathered the demonstration and understand
the working of the commercial farm and agro techniques.
● we got knowledge of profitability and on-ground condition of the agriculture subsidies, policies, schemes, and their reach in the
village.
● we also interacted with various experienced farmer and got an idea of their living conditions.
● we visited agri-commercial clinic and shops for pesticides, fertilizer, and seeds and understood the different chemicals, and
their prices .
❖ 4th Week:
● Scientists of soil science conducted an activity with all students of soil sampling in groups and testing the soil samples.
● sir demonstrated the proper way of soil testing , the pH level of the soil, and the various equipment we use in the soil
laboratory for performing the soil tests.
● we also came to know about the soil health card and got the idea of every component of the soil health card.
❖ 5th Week:

● plant protection scientist performed a workshop for all the students about the various plant diseases.

● mango plant grafting and layering demonstrations were performed by horticulture scientists.

● we had a field visit of a progressive farmer’s commercial farm and fish and animal husbandry farm where we witnessed

the daily farm activities, resources, nature of work, and profitability of the farms of this scale.
