Indonesia's online marketplace has experienced significant development in recent years, with
platforms such as Tokopedia and Shopee becoming the leaders of the e-commerce industry.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (UKM) in Indonesia can be significantly affected by the
monopsony conditions generated by these online marketplaces. One of the most significant
effects is the influence on product prices. Due to the high concentration of buyer power, e-
commerce platforms can suppress the prices offered by UKM. As a result, UKM have to
change the prices of their products to remain competitive.

The competitiveness of UKM can also be affected by the concentration of buyer power. With
dominant e-commerce platforms, UKM have to compete fiercely for consumers' attention.
This can force UKM to spend more money on advertising and promotion to make their
products better known. UKM without sufficient resources may have difficulty increasing
sales and eventually go bankrupt.

Small and medium-sized businesses (UKM) in Indonesia have found it difficult to compete
with dominant e-commerce platforms in some cases. For example, unable to compete with
the prices offered by e-commerce platforms, some fashion UKM have experienced a decline
in sales. This can lead to UKM having to raise the prices of their goods to remain
competitive, which can cause them to lose their competitiveness. Therefore, the government
and regulators should pay more attention to overseeing the growth of the online market and
ensuring that UKM in Indonesia can compete fairly.
