I. Learning
Competency The learner illustrates the permutation of objects. (M10SP-
IIIa-1)
I. Procedure
● Elicit
Activity 1. Define Me (Unistructural)
1. 3! = 3x2x1 = 6
2. 5! = 5x4x3x2x1 = 120
3. 8! = 8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1 = 40, 320
Activity 2. (Evaluate Me) (Multistructural)

WHAT IS FACTORIAL?
In mathematics, factorial refers to the product of all positive
integers less than or equal to a particular positive integer. It is
usually denoted by that integer and an exclamation point.
That is n! = n x (n – 1) x … x 1.
Note: 0! = 1
Activity 3. Be an Explorer! (Multistructural)
Simplify the following expressions.
● Explore
8! 8 x7 x6 x 5 x4 x3 x2 x1
1. = = 8x7x6 = 336
5! 5 x 4 x3 x 2x 1
7! 7 x 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 7 •6 •5 •2
2. = = = 420
2! 3 ! 2• 1• 3• 2• 1 1
WHAT IS PERMUTATION?
● Explain
Permutation is about the different possible arrangements
of a set of objects wherein ORDER is important.

Example #1.
In how many ways can you arrange the letters P, Q, R, and
S? (Multistructural)
Answer: n = 4 n! = 4! = 4x3x2x1 = 24 ways
Example #2
In how many ways can a family of 5 members be arranged
in a row for picture taking? (Multistructural)
Answer: n = 5 5! = 5•4•3•2•1 = 120 ways
EXAMPLE #1
Webster Moore bought a four-digit combination lock for
his last week. However, he forgot the code that is why he
won’t be able to use it today. He only remembered that the
code contains the digit 1, 5, 7, and 8. List down all
possible codes and determine the number of permutations
made.(Extended Abstract)
● Elaborate
Activity 4. Group Activity
Directions: Each group will answer their assigned problem.
Problem:
Maria has 5 different books on mathematics and 4 different
books on physics. She wants to arrange them on her
bookshelf.
Group 1 Question: If Maria wants to keep all the mathematics
books together, how many ways can she arrange the two
groups? (Unistructural)
Answer: 5!x4! (permutations of math books times
permutations of physics books)
Answer: 1. A 2. B 3. D 4. D 5. B
