INSTRUCTIONS
• HANDWRITTEN COMPLETION SOLUTION is needed
• Box your final answers and do NOT Roundoff until FINAL ANSWER
• Use legal size bond paper (long) with 1 inch margin in each side.
• Deadline is on February 15,2024 (Thursday) until 6pm ONLY.

Instructions: Read each problem carefully. Provide your COMPLETE solution handwritten and BOX
your final answers.

1. A reinforced sand lightweight concrete beam has a width of 300mm, a total depth of 475mm and
an effective depth of 400mm. It is reinforced with 3-28mm ø bars at the bottom. If the beam is
simply supported 7m in length with f’c = 30Mpa, fy= 314Mpa and carrying a uniformly distributed
load of 5000 N/m throughout its length. Use NSCP 2001.

Determine:
a. The MAXIMUM bending moment acting on the beam
b. The ACTUAL bending stress in the extreme tension fiber of the beam
c. The MOMENT CAPACITY of the beam
d. The ALLOWABLE bending stress in the extreme tension fiber of the beam
e. ADEQUACY

2. A reinforced concrete beam has a width of 250mm, a total depth of 400mm and an effective depth
of 350mm. If the beam is simply supported 4m in length with f’c = 28Mpa, fy= 325Mpa. The beam
is carrying a uniformly distributed load of 2.5 kN/m throughout its length and a concentrated load
of 15kN positioned at the middle of the beam. Use NSCP 2015.

Determine:
a. The MAXIMUM bending moment acting on the beam
b. The ACTUAL bending stress in the extreme tension fiber of the beam
c. The MOMENT CAPACITY of the beam
d. The ALLOWABLE bending stress in the extreme tension fiber of the beam
e. ADEQUACY
