A Special House For a Special Family!

1 Read the text about Red Ovenbirds and number the paragraphs in the correct
order.

Red Ovenbirds are very special. Are there any

Red Ovenbirds near YOUR home? Look around
and find out!

Red Ovenbirds have got big families – usually the mother, the
father and 2 to 6 babies. They live in a very comfortable nest,
their home, for a time. Then the kids leave their parents to
build their homes and form their own family. And the parents?
They build a new home, sometimes on the old nest, and start a
new family.

These lovely birds are great parents and they are great architects,
too. Mother and Father are together all their lives and build
their home in 6 to 8 days with the ‘adobe’ technique. The nest is
spherical (like a ball or an oven) and it is strong and safe for all
the family. It has got only one door and there aren’t any windows,
but it has got a living room and a bedroom. Yes! TWO rooms!

There are families and families. Some families live in a house or in a

flat. Some families live in the city or in a town. Some families live on a
farm in the country. But there are some families that are very special;
they live everywhere – in a tree, on a window or under the roof of a
house. Who are they? They are the Red Ovenbirds – called Horneros or
Caseros in Argentina. And do you know what? They are not red!

My Choice

I love playing chess and cards

And I always go online.
I don’t like going to the park,
But I love playing outside!
I never read the news,
But I always watch TV
I sometimes listen to the radio,
But I never read a magazine.
I don’t play boring board games,
But I play with my friends at school,
And I do a lot of sports
Because I think it’s very cool.
What’s a good breakfast for you?
Please, some tea with milk for me.
Are big lunch and dinner good?
Not at all! I love ice cream!
Do you always drink orange juice?
Or do you sometimes have water?
I prefer fizzy drinks myself,
And so does my aunt’s daughter.
Many people do aerobics,
Some others like playing hockey.
