THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Science is a tool that can enhance our quality of life and simplify daily tasks.

These days, in the era of technological innovation and advancement, humans mostly employ
goods, materials, and inventions derived from both non-renewable and renewable resources.
Dishwashing liquid is a specific example of that. In the world of household cleaning products,
dishwashing liquids play a significant role in maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
However, the use of conventional dishwashing liquids often raises concerns due to their potential
negative impacts on human health and the environment. As a result, researchers are continuously
exploring alternative and eco-friendly solutions to tackle this issue and promote sustainable
practices.

In this study will be making use of the Okra as an organic alternative dishwashing liquid.
Standing 2-4 inches tall, Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is the sole vegetable crop of It is highly

distinctive features unique to the country to which they belong.

The plant's edible seedpods have led to its widespread cultivation in warm temperate to
tropical regions. In addition to being the source of high-quality fiber, it offers a number of additional
food and medicinal purposes. The fruit's extract is a skin conditioner that is included to commercial
cosmetic treatments. Commercial cosmetic treatments use an extract from crushed seeds as a skin
conditioner ingredient.

Statement of the Problem

This study assessed the effectiveness of Abelmoschus Esculentus (Okra) as an

alternative dishwashing liquid.

Specifically, it sought answer to the following questions:

1. What is the effectiveness of Abelmoschus Esculentus (Okra) as an alternative

dishwashing liquid in terms of the following:
I. Stain remover
II. Expiration
III. Anti-bacterial component

2. What is the efficacy of the the Okra extract in removing the stain in plates and other
kitchen equipments?
3. Is there a significant difference between two types of Abelmoschus Esculentus
(Okra) as dishwashing alternative?

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This research is limited to the development of dishwashing solutions with a specific

amount of okra fruit and other substances. The product can only be used to clean kitchen

equipment of grease and stains. Though it won't last as long as the commercial version

because it's completely organic and natural, the product will definitely be useful and

important. The product's capabilities will be evaluated using a survey and an efficacy test

that compares its performance to a commercial product.

Significance of the Study

This study is focused on creating dishwashing solutions containing a particular

quantity of okra fruit along with other ingredients. The solution is only meant to remove

grease and stains from kitchen equipment. Due to its all-natural and organic makeup, it

won't last as long as the commercial version, but it will still be a valuable product. A survey

and an efficacy test that contrasts the product's performance with a commercial product will

be used to assess the product's capabilities.

are consumed as vegetables, can be used in salads, soups and stews, fresh or dried, fried or
boiled. It offers mucilaginous consistency after cooking. Often the extract obtained from the
fruit is added to different recipes like stews and sauces to increase the consistency. Okra
mucilage has medicinal applications when used as a plasma replacement or blood volume
expander.
Chapter 3
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research method. It focuses on the method used in conducting this
research design this research which covers research design, population and sample, research
instrument, data collecting method, data analysis.
Research Design
This study will be an experimental design. The effectiveness of Okra as an
alternative dishwashing liquid will be compared to a commercially available dishwashing
liquid through a series of experiments.

Research Instrument
Two sets of ceramic plates with the same quantity of grease and food residue will
serve as the research tool for this experiment. Okra extract will be used as the dishwashing
liquid for one set of dishes, while a commercial dishwashing liquid will be used for the
second set. The amount of oil and food residue that remains on the plates after cleaning will
be utilized to measure how clean and effective each dishwashing liquid is.

Statistical Analysis
The average cleanliness ratings for the plates washed with Okra extract and the
dishwashing liquid sold commercially will be compared as part of the statistical analysis for
this study. Depending on the type of data collected, different statistical tests can be used to
perform this comparison. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) or t-test can be applied if the
data have a normal distribution. Non-parametric tests like the Mann-Whitney U test and the
Kruskal-Wallis test can be used if the data do not follow a normal distribution. The
usefulness of Okra as a substitute dishwashing liquid in comparison to the one sold
commercially will be ascertained through statistical analysis.
Data Gathering
Exploring the effectiveness of Okra as an alternative dishwashing liquid is to look into the
possibility of okra flower extract replacing traditional dishwashing solutions in a practical
and sustainable way. This study will examine okra’s antibacterial qualities, evaluate how
well it cleans dishes of oil and food residue, and examine the plant's overall cleaning
efficacy. This study aims to provide insights into the possible benefits of okra in promoting
economical and ecologically friendly dishwashing practices through rigorous experimental
procedures and comparative analysis.

The purpose of this study is to determine how well okra, or Abelmoschus esculentus L.
works as a substitute for dishwashing liquid. Okra's efficacy will be compared against that
of a brand-name dishwashing detergent in a laboratory setting during the trial. The quantity
of suds generated, the ease of rinsing, and the dishwashing liquids' capacity to remove oil
and food particles from dishes are the variables that will be measured. The study's findings
will contribute to the discussion of okra's viability as a substitute for store-bought
dishwashing solutions. The study will not look into okra's efficacy for other cleaning uses;
instead, it will only examine its use as a dishwashing liquid. Furthermore, possible
environmental effects will not be examined in this study.

The study evaluates the effectiveness of okra, also known as Abelmoschus

esculentus L. as a dishwashing liquid substitute. It compares okra's efficacy against a name-
brand detergent, focusing on suds production, rinse simplicity, and food particle removal.
The results will contribute to discussions on okra's practicality.
