STORYTELLING

& POETRY
KAYLA XAYPANYA
GRADE LEVEL: 2
GOALS
The goals of this second grade storytelling and poetry unit are to
compose and develop skills in writing, language, and grammar.
Students will be able to write stories with given prompts and
create their own stories with collaborative drawings, as well as
assemble and produce poems.
According to Malia (2021), young children
enjoy reading, writing and listening to stories,
and from the stories, they are able to
understand more about society and life in
general, which shows that any form of
literacy is beneficial to children, especially at
a young age.

Research Digital storytelling supports students’ learning

by encouraging them to organize and
express their ideas and knowledge in a
distinctive and meaningful way (Maila 2021).

According to Samuelsson (2009), children

have a natural talent for writing poetry and
that work with children should be aimed at
letting children develop an
awareness of their own capability to make
poetry and not be taught how to do
