ROOFING

The most common roofing material is the

galvanized iron sheet popularly known as
the G.I sheet.
The thickness of galvanized
iron sheet is measured in
terms of Gauge Number
from 14 to 30. The sheet
becomes thinner as gauge
number becomes larger.
AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp
ROOFING

Gauge 26 is the most extensively used for roofing and

various tin works and gauge 24 is specified for gutters
and valley rolls.

Verify the plan if the side lapping is 1-1/2 or 2-1/2

corrugations. If it is 1-1/2 corrugations, the effective
width covering per sheet is 0.70m, and 0.60 if 2-1/2
corrugations.

ROOFING

The standard end lapping joint

is from 25 to 30cm long.

ROOFING

SHED TYPE ROOF

1. Divide the gutter length (GL) by the effective
coverage width of one roofing to get the number of
rows required.
2. Determine the number of roofing sheets according
to the length, laid along the slope.
3. Multiply no.1 and no. 2
4. For Gable roof, multiply answer by 2

ROOFING

HIP TYPE ROOF

1. Visualize the given roof
as a gable roof by
making a mental re-
arrangement of roof
sections near the hip
lines.

AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp

ROOFING

HIP TYPE ROOF

2. Solve for the roofing materials based on the gable
roof design.
For the purpose of estimating, use GL1 to give
allowance for the cutting at the hips.

GL1 = GL + 15% W

ROOFING

GUTTER
For estimating ready-made plain GI gutter with
standard length of 2.40 m (8 ft), use the formula:

Roof Gutter Length/2.25 m = No. of pieces req'd

2.25m is the effective length after deducting 0.15m (6")
as overlap between pieces of gutter.

TILEWORK

TILEWORK
Ceramic Tiles are classified into:
1. Glazed tiles
2. Unglazed tiles
Various Types of Tiles
1. Ceramic tiles
2. Porcelain tiles
3. Glass tiles
4. Marble tiles
5. Granite tile
6. Natural Stone tiles
AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp
TILEWORK - CERAMIC TILES

1. Determine the surface area of floor or wall to be

tiled
2. Determine the area of one tile to be used
3. Add 5-10% allowance for cutting and breakage

Cement mortar - 0.086 bags per sqm.

White cement joint filler - 0.50 kg. per sqm
Tile Adhesive - 0.11 bag per sqm

TILEWORK - PEBBLE WASHOUT FINISH

Pebbles are small roundish stone

used for walls and floor finishes
called washout and pebbles
respectively.

Pebble stone is mixed with pure

cement to a proportion of either 1:2
or 1:3 mortar mixture then applied
on wall or floor slab, then washed
with water.
AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp
TILEWORK - PEBBLE WASHOUT FINISH

1. Determine the area of the floor/ wall to be applied

2. Determine the thickness of stone pebble finish
(16mm)
3. Get the volume of the pebble stones required
4. Use Class "B" mixture of cement

PAINTING

PAINTING

Painting, clear finishes and other coatings are applied

on a surface to impart a thin layer of adhesive film for it
protection, to give it color, seal its imperfection,
smoothen its uneven areas, etc.

Painting is done with brushes, rollers and spray guns.

AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp

PAINTING

Paint is composed of:

a. Pigment - the coloring element

which may be opaque, white or colored
b. Vehicle - thee oils or resins that hold
the pigment in suspension.

PAINTING

Description of Paints and Companion

Products

1. Oil-based paints
2. Alkyd paints
3. Emulsion paints
4. Catalyzed paints
5. Enamel paints
6. Thinners
7. Primer
AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp
PAINTING

Paints and other surface coatings are estimated using

the formula:

(Surface Area)x(No. of Coats)

= Quantity of Paints Req'd
Coverage of Paint

Thinner = 1/2 liter per gallon of paint

AR. ARJEE LOUIE DC. JIMENEZ, uap, rmp

PAINTING

1. Coarse to rough surface - 30 sq.m coverage area

2. Fine to coarse surface - 35 sq.m coverage area
3. Smooth to fine - 40 sq.m. coverage area
