Unit 8 - recruitment and select

City of Westminster college

Joe and the juice

AMELIA HARRISON - (221677) 2

In this assignment, I will explain how is the process of recruitment and selection of a specific
company, in this case, Joe and the Juice.
Joe and the juice is a Danish company founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2002 that has more
than 150 stores in more than 6 countries around the world, 58 of those stores are located in the
UK.
The principal activity of the business is the selling of fresh juices-shakes-sandwiches-salads,
90% of the product are healthy and easy to take on the go and that’s one of the most important
principle goals of the company.
The idea of the company is having a young and active team, that’s why most of the employees
will be in the range 19-24, they also recruit younger and older people.

Job description (juicer):

-The face of the company who represents our brand as an ambassador
-Following the daily concept workflow to deliver a quality product in clean and structured stores
with excellent guest dialogue.
- Cleaning bar area, toilets and customer area.
-Make products on the 3 stations that the company have.
It is necessary to consider how people in that age group live when planning recruitment. For
example, when most stores are busy throughout the summer, you'll require a large number of
workers behind the bar, which is why you'll see more advertisements for job openings in the last
two months. On the other hand, most people return to UNI or college in September and October,
so they work part-time or quit their jobs.
The most significant aspect of this time is that some people leave, but once everyone is back on
track, you don't need a large number of workers, so it's just a matter of managing whether or not
the store is busy.
Now that we are in the recruitment process, in this type of company where the niche is young
people, everything is done through a website application. During the summer, the offer of jobs is
not as high as the demand, so that's when the company tries to find the best people for the job. Of
course, after September-October, the demand for jobs drops dramatically, so that's when the
company tries to be visible in various ways, such as through social media.

After you send the application it just takes a couple of days to receive an answer and then go to
the interview in person or by video chat, depending on the number of applications they receive.
When the interview is face to face is a small group of people (10-15 approx.) the interview is
about 2 hours trying to know the applicant.
After the interview, if you’re selected for the next step, they will make you go to one bar-training
campus to start the training for one week, just doing it between a small group of people.
The interview is more like a conversation about you and the way that you think in some
situations, doesn’t matter if you are new in that kind of job or if u ready have experience on it.
Before that training, came the difficult part which is selected, the team that is responsible for that
part needs to know what does the company needs in that period of time looking forward to the
next 3-4 months.

They must consider the employee's availability when making their pick, in case the company
need full-time workers at that time for the number of hours that must be covered.
The background of the person, a simple question like “why did you apply for this company” and
50% of the people are no able to make the proper answer, proper answer because there is no
correct answer. They ask about your goal’s motivation and your plan in the company (this is just
to have in mind if you’re planning to stay for the short or long term).
The employment laws are in place to make sure that both employers and employees are
protected; Providing legislation on dismissal, holidays, pay, discrimination and more, these are
placed to protect workers’ rights while also safeguarding an employer’s interest and keeping the
relationship between the two fair.
In conclusion, every business has an unique approach depending on the type of organisation;
some will be more formal, and each step will be more serious, but the culture of this organisation
will be different, and that is a good thing.

For young people, this will be the best option.
