TOPIC: LET’S MARK THE BOUNDARIES
OBJECTIVES:
(1) Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major mountain belts.
(2) Determine the scientific basis for dividing the Lithospheric plates.
GFA RULE:
7. DEADLINE: 7:00am of the next day
ANY LATE SUBMISSION, 7:01 am and beyond of the next day, will be given a grade of ZERO.
Procedure:
1. TAKE A PICTURE of all your materials.
2. Study Figure 5 showing the earthquake distribution around the world.
3. Trace the approximate locations of several earthquake “clusters” using a marking pen on one of
the plastic sheets. TAKE A PICTURE.
Q1. Where are they located? Where are there no earthquakes?
Q2. Why is it important for us to identify areas which are prone to earthquakes?
5. On the second plastic sheet, sketch the approximate locations of several volcanoes using a marking
pen.
6. Place the earthquake plastic sheet over the volcano plastic sheet. TAKE A PICTURE.
Q4. Compare the location of the majority of earthquake epicenters with the location of volcanoes
around the world.
7. Study Figure 7, the orange portions indicate mountain ranges of the world.
Q5. How will you relate the distribution of mountain ranges with the distribution of earthquake
