1 Hello class. Today, we’re going to go to eat out at a restaurant and to order the
food.

2 In this lesson, you will learn some new vocabulary about dishes. You will also
learn about contractions in the Pronunciation part. Then, you will learn how to
order food at the restaurant.

3 So, where’s the menu? Here it is.

OK, there are 4 groups of food. What are they called?

They are desserts, drinks, main courses và starters.

Desserts are the food you eat after the main food, like fruits or cake.

Drinks are Coke, orange juice, or coffee, tea.

Main courses are the main food like beef, fish, pork.

Starters are the first food you eat before the main courses.

Now complete the menu with the headings.

(Pause)

So the answers are: Number 1: starters, number 2: main courses, number 3:

desserts and number 4: drinks

4 Now, let’s move on to a conversation between 2 people at a restaurant in Exercise

1. Answer the questions.

1. What do they order?

2. Look at the menu again. How much does the meal cost?
 Now listen.

So, the answer are:

1. Man: seafood pizza;

Woman: mushroom and spinach burger; both sparkling water (one to share)

2. $26.40 (seafood pizza $11.95, mushroom and spinach burger $11.95,

and one bottle of sparkling water $2.50)
5 Alright, how do we order food at a restaurant and how can we interact with the
waiter? There are some good expressions for customers and waiters. Let’s take a
look at the box and decide who says it. Mark C for customers and W for waiter.

Let’s check answers:

Here is the menu: W

Can I get you anything to drink first? W

I’d like a bottle of water, please? C

I don’t want a starter. C

I’ll have a seafood pizza. C

I’d also like a dessert. C

Are you ready to order? W

That was delicious. C

 Can I get you anything else? W

Could we have the bill, please? C

Now, find a person to make a conversation at the restaurant.

Student A: the waiter

Student B: the customer

6 OK, in the conversation, we heard some sentences with the contracted form of
‘would like’ and ‘ I will’. Contractions are used a lot when we speak. Now,
let’s listen again and repeat the contracted form of ‘would like’ and ‘I will”.

(pause)

So, “would like’ is pronounced ‘ d’ like’

And ‘I will’ is pronounced ‘I’ll”

Now practice saying the sentences for ordering a meal with contracted forms.
