GRADES DURATION
3A, 3B, 2D, 2E, 2F 45 minutes (1 period)

SUBJECT TOPIC
Physics Kinematics – Speed and Velocity

TEACHING GOALS
Students are being instructed to use the learning resources effectively.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
TSWBAT

 Differentiate between speed and velocity

 Calculate speed and velocity
 Understand Distance-Time Graph.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

Introduction (5 minutes):
 Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what speed and velocity mean.
 Discuss with the class what they think the difference between speed and velocity
might be.

Concept Explanation and Presentation (20 minutes):

 Present the definitions of speed and velocity

 Speed: The rate at which an object moves. It is a scalar quantity and is
measured in distance per unit time (e.g., meters per second).
 Velocity: The rate at which an object changes its position. It is a vector
quantity and includes both the speed and direction of motion.
 Use examples to illustrate the difference between speed and velocity. For example:
 A car traveling at 60 mph (speed) eastward (velocity).
 A person running at 5 m/s (speed) northward (velocity).
 Show students how to calculate speed and velocity using the respective formulas:
 Work through example(s) together as a class, ensuring students understand how to
apply the formulas correctly.
 Emphasize the significance of direction in velocity.
 Discuss scenarios where objects may have the same speed but different velocities
due to differences in direction.
 Use visual aids or real-life examples to illustrate this concept, such as a person
walking in different directions at the same speed.

Practice Problems (15 minutes):

 Assign BB/MS-Form activities with practice problems involving speed and
velocity.

Lesson Plan

 Allow students to work on practice problems individually and encourage peer

help for low level students
 Monitor and provide assistance as needed.

Conclusion (5 minutes):
 Recap the key points of the lesson: the difference between speed and velocity,
how to calculate them, and the importance of direction in velocity.
 Encourage students to ask any final questions they may have.

Homework (if desired):

Assign homework problems related to the lesson to reinforce learning.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE

Assess student understanding through their participation in class discussions, their ability to
correctly solve practice problems, and any questions they ask during the lesson.

MATERIALS AND AIDS

• PowerPoint Presentation with visual aids

• Handouts, worksheets for classwork and homework
• Notebook, Folder, Pens, Pencils, Laptop, Blackboard Software, MS-Teams
• White board, Markers, Digital Presentation Tool (Projector, Projector Screen, Timer)
• BB Activities/MS-Forms Activities with practice problems

REMARKS

Adjust the difficulty level of the practice problems and the depth of discussion based on the
level and prior knowledge of your students.
