SCCG3123 SESSION 2023/2024

COURSE ASSESSMENT

The assessment for SCCG3123 Negotiation Communication comprises of 60%


coursework (assignments) as well as final examination (40%). The breakdown of the
assessments are as follows:

1. Individual Assignment 20%


2. Group Assignment 40%
3. Final Examination 40%
TOTAL 100%

1. ASSIGNMENT 1: REFLECTIVE JOURNAL AND ESSAY WRITING (20%)

This assignment asses your knowledge and problem-solving skills.

Instructions:
a. You are required to find ONE (1) journal article that discusses one of
the theories related to Negotiation Communication as stated in our
course syllabus/class ppt slides.
b. Identify the main problem/issue in the article.
c. Produce a critical writing on the article by explaining your understanding
on how the theory support the research.
d. Your critical writing should focus on synthesising and evaluating the
problem/ issue (s) and how the theory guided the research in solving the
problem.
e. The structure of your essay should be as follows:

i. Introduction – Introduce the important concepts and theories in


negotiation.
ii. Discussion – Critically synthesize and evaluate how the theory is
employed to solve the issue.
iii. Conclusion – conclude by providing your opinion or
recommendation regarding the issue.

f. Please refer to the Individual Assignment Rubric 1 for knowledge; and


Individual Assignment Rubric 2 for problem solving.

Assignment Guidelines:
a. This essay should be typed and not exceed five (5) pages with 1.5 line
spacing.
b. Use Times New Roman, font 12 when preparing your assignment.
c. This essay should be supported by academic references (journal
articles/books) and comply with APA 7 th Edition writing style. Check your
UUM online learning portal on how to write references according to APA
writing style.
d. Plagiarism is an academic crime. Therefore, a complete citation must be
presented to the quotations, Paraphrasing, or ideas taken from the /
source other than the authors of the report itself.
e. Please submit all assignments under the Turnitin platform in your
portal.

f. Only submission of less than 20% similarity index is acceptable.


However, sources from any large language models (LLMs) created by
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not be accepted.
g. Deadline for submission is on the first class of 3rd Meeting. No extension
of deadline will be given. Portal will not be re-opened after the due date
so plan your schedule accordingly.

2. GROUP ASSIGNMENT

THIS ASSIGNMENT CONSISTS OF THREE (3) PARTS:

Part 1: Interview
Part 2: Presentation (powerpoint slide + summary of the video)
Part 3: Ethic and professionalism (plus self & group reflection of 1 page)

A. PART 1: INTERVIEW

Instructions:

a. You are required to form a group of five.


b. In completing this assignment, you will first need to identify an
organization, either public or private sectors including government-
linked company (GLCs) and multi-national corporations (MNCs).
c. Secondly, conduct an interview (the interview must be recorded) with
a senior employee of that organization to explore issues related to a
negotiation situation involving members of the organization, either
between internal departments or between the organization members and
the stakeholders.
d. Your group are required to identify ONE key issue or problem faced by
the organization that requires negotiation between parties mentioned in C
above.
e. Looking deeper into the issue, identify the negotiation type and the
process or stages involved that took place in order to reach an
agreement between the parties involved,
f. The length of the interview should be 15-20 minutes.
g. Each member of the group must take part in the interview either by
asking questions or making an introduction and conclusion.
h. Based on the interview, construct your communication strategies for
your future negotiation. The discussions in determining your
communication strategies should also be recorded.
i. The recorded versions of the interview, and your communication
strategies must be uploaded to the UUM Online Learning Portal.
j. File that is bigger than 100MB need to be uploaded in the Google
Drive/Youtube channel.
k. Please refer to Group Assignment 1 Rubric LOC3a Practical Skills to
accomplish this task.

Submission Guidelines

a. Deadline for submission of the recording is on the first class of 4th


Meeting.
b. No extension of deadline will be given. Portal will not be re-opened after
the due date so plan your schedule accordingly.

d. ONLY LEADER will UPLOAD THE SOFT COPY to the class online
learning portal.

B. PART 2: PRESENTATION

Instructions:

a. Based on the interview in Part 1, your group will do an in-class


presentation during the 4th Meeting.
b. During the presentation, your group will discuss the key issue or
problem related to negotiation situation faced by the organization that
you have interviewed.
c. Relate your discussion with the topics that have been discussed in class.
d. If you cite a scholar to support your arguments/discussion, the academic
reference should be included in your presentation materials/ppt slides.
e. The duration of each presentation is between 7 to 10 minutes.
f. Refer to Group Assignment LOC3c Presentation Rubric for the
assessment criteria.

C. PART 3: ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALISM

Instructions:

a. This part assesses the aspects of ethical conduct as well as your


professionalism while completing this group assignment.
b. In this regard, feedback from your peers (if any) will also be taken into
consideration in the grading. This will be done upon consultation with both
parties (you and your peers/group members).
c. Please refer to the Group Assignment LOC5 Ethic and Professionalism
Rubric for reference.

FINAL EXAMINATION (INDIVIDUAL - 40%)

Details of the final examination will be updated in Week 3 onwards or upon receiving
final schedule from HEA.
