China Telecom needed to acquire a complete multi-service
network, supporting data, voice over IP and video for its new IT
group center in Dubai. The system required to be converged,

China Telecom then needed to find the right solution provider to
assess, design, configure and deploy the proposed infrastructure.
Following a detailed evaluation process, and on the recommendation
of industry experts, it selected Itech Devices Group.
The Solution
Itech Devices group began by undertaking a thorough requirement
gathering exercise in order to identify the customer requirement
and how it impacted their business objectives and productivity.
However, finding the right product portfolio to deliver the required
results proved to be a demanding and challenging task. Itech
Devices pre- sales team decided to use an all Cisco solution.
The design of the network was based on modified star configuration
and a partial mesh topology in order to avoid single point of failure,
redundancy and load balance. The backbone cabling was multiple
core single mode fiber optics. The IT and Network solution
supported all type of traffics like voice and data. A very close
observation was taken when designing the bandwidth of the
network as it shall accommodate the estimated number of
employees and any future expansion in order to avoid any
congestion and shall server all the unified technology architecture
applications and services. Furthermore the network comprised of
different level of securities to prevent any intrusion, attackers and to
control access to the network.

The network design proposed by Itech Devices
• The proposed infrastructure shall be a single unified infrastructure servicing all IP devices which is called multi-
service network.
• The voice services are based on the latest IP telephony devices with utilization of analogue as required.
• Each modular / virtual switch in the SDR’s will be connected to the MCCR and BCCR through two 10GBPS
connections or two 1GBPS connections as per required.
• Distribution Switches in the MCCR and BCCR will connect to all application servers that are related to this section
through core switches.
• SDR per each floor shall the equipped with stackable/modular switch to support 1 GB and equipped with POE+
ports. All switches must be layer-3
• Distribution switches in the MCCR and BCCR will be connected to two wireless controllers and are provided by UPS
service.
• Over all this system can be divided to following:

We came across a number of challenges including hardware limitations like core switches without POE cards availability and
switch chassis with slot limitations. We implemented a solution based on Layer-3, redundant power supply switch with highest
backplane possible to address the number of ports required. Furthermore we chose the switches with UPOE that provided us
maximum POE power to work with all devices including 8w, 15w, 30w and 45w rated devices.

The Benefits
Now that the entire IT group centre is running on a single Cisco-built platform supporting all core business functions, China
Telecom is realizing multiple benefits. The centre is enjoying a seamless communication experience while cutting down
substantially on time and increased productivity. This has in turn provided China Telecom with an ROI which is way in excess
of their expectations.
Conclusion
New Multi-service Network platform enables a centralized, integrated communication flow for the business, enabling maximum
efficiency and reducing the need for manual intervention.
