QUESTION-3) An iron sphere of diameter 80 mm, initially at a uniform temperature of 200 C is

suddenly exposed to ambient air at 30 C with convection coefficient 510 W/(m2.C).

Taking the density, specific heat, conduction coefficient and thermal diffusivity for the sphere as 8000
kg/m3, 460 J/(kg.C), 60 W/(m.C) and 1.610−5 m2/s, respectively, calculate the
a) temperature at the sphere center (10 points)
b) temperature at a depth of 5 mm from the surface at 1 minute after exposure to the
convection environment (10 points)
c) heat removed from the sphere in this 1 minute duration (10 points)
