D. Developing Mastery (leads to EXPLAIN

Formative Assessment 3)
What is digestive system? Ma’am, digestive system is a series of
hollow organs joined in a long, twisting
tube from the mouth to the anus.

Very good!

What is digestion? Any idea? Digestion is the complex process of

turning the food you eat into nutrients,
which the body uses for energy, growth
and cell repair needed to survive. The
digestion process also involves creating
waste to be eliminated.

Very good! What are the major organs of

digestive system?
Ma’am the major organs of digestive
system are the mouth, pharynx,
esophagus, stomach, small intestine,
large intestine, rectum and anus.

Exactly!

Where does the digestion take place? Ma’am the first digestion takes place or
begins in our mouth when we chew.

Very good!

Second we have the pharynx (throat)

It is a funnel shaped tube that is
connected to the mouth. It is charged
with passing chewed food into the
esophagus from the mouth.

After have you swallowed your food,

it passes through the throat and into
the ?
Ma’am into the esophagus.

Very good!

Food is passed through hypo-pharynx

and oropharynx. Through the process
called peristalsis, food is converted
into a small round mass. At the end of
the esophagus, there is a muscular
ring called the cardiac sphincher.

What do we call where the food is

coated with a mixture or digestive
enzymes and acid. This helps break
down food. Ma’am stomach.

After the food has been broken down

in the stomach, it is then passed on Ma’am in the small intestine.
the?

Very good!

Now, do you know what are the

accessory organs of digestive system? Yes ma’am.

What are those? Ma’am accessory organs of digestive

system are salivary glands, liver,
gallbladder, and pancreas.
That’s correct!

After the small intestine, we have also

another type of intestine. What do we
call it? Ma’am the Large intestine.

Very good!

Do you know what is the function of

Large intestine? Ma’am its function is to absorb water
and breaking down waste.
Very good!

It is also contains bacteria that help

with the breakdown of waste that is
passed from the small intestine.

Next, we have the rectum. What is the Ma’am rectum receives stool from the
function of rectum? large intestine. Its job also is to hold the
stool until it is evacuated.

Very good!

And the last one which is the anus.

In which, the stool is passed on from

the rectum to the anus for ejection.
The anus is surrounded by a sphincter
muscles that allow you to control the
anus function.

Okay class, is it important to have a

digestive system? Why? Yes ma’am because the digestive helps
our body to digest and remove our
wastes materials inside our body and it
helps us also get the nutrients from the
Very good! food we eat.

The process of digestion turns your

food into nutrients which are needed
to function and survive. Your body
uses nutrients for energy, growth and
cell repair.

How are we going to take care of the

parts of our digestive system?
(students answer may vary)
5 Ways to take care you digestive
system
1. 1. Exercise
2. 2.Take vitamins
3. 3. Drink plenty of water
4. 4. Eat a healthy diet.
5. 5. Take or eat probiotics.

3. Where does the final digestion take (students answer may vary)
place?
4. Why is it important to have
